Dukes Bath

My husband booked a night away at this hotel for our 1st Anniversary. After reading the reviews we were really looking forward to it. Unfortunately we were extremely disappointed. The suite was very dated, had stains/marks on the bathroom walls, chipped toilet seat, the bathroom light was hanging down, the fan was very dirty and dusty, the bed throw had REJECT written on it in blue pen…it just wasn’t what we were expecting especially for how much we paid! I understand from reading other reviews that this hotel has been recently taken over and is in the middle of being spruced up however the price should reflect that. We could have booked other hotels in a similar area for the same price but in a lot better condition. We ended up skipping breakfast and checked out early.

Absolutely lovely hotel , joint with the bird hotel where we had fantastic food and cocktails. Dukes is very quaint and the staff especially Vincent at front of house and Eiliah at breakfast couldn’t do enough or be more helpful. We will definitely be back , the wellington room is lovely. We enjoyed our stay at Dukes Hotel in Bath. Our room was lovely and I felt like I had stepped into Bridgerton! Very big and bright with a gorgeous big bed. The staff couldn’t have been nicer and were helpful in every way. The location was very close to town center and easy to get around. We highly recommend The Duke!

We had a warm welcome, and we're shown to our room (Superior King, about £200 a night - bear this in mind when I get picky!), up 6 flights of stairs. We knew about the stairs, so no issue, it is stated on the website, and the staff did offer to carry our luggage. We weren't immediately enamoured with the room, but it was cosy (quite cold, but warmed up), beds were slightly oddly positioned (two pushed together to create a king), but overall OK. Very quickly noticed the state of the curtains - they looked like a small child had taken a pair of blunt scissors to them. Unfortunately there were also stains on the headboard, paint on the sheets and mould in the bathroom (all pictured). Very old looking TV to match, but functional and all worked OK. To add insult to the state of the room, breakfast was frankly quite sad. £15 (no, breakfast is NOT complimentary), my husband had a glass of juice, 1 (TINY) egg, 1 sausage, 1 rasher of bacon and a tomato (all pictured). For a room at the prices charged, I expect it to be mould free, and have curtains in one piece. Thankfully the bed was comfortable so we were well rested and enjoyed the rest of Bath. Would absolutely not, however, recommend to a friend. Actually quite disgusted at the state of it vs the charge. Note: £20 per night, per vehicle at sister hotel...use the Park and Ride

Lovely stay at Dukes hotel, we had a warm welcome from the lovely receptionist who was very helpful. Room was clean and cosy and the complimentary peppermint tea was the best I’ve had! Very good location to explore Bath city centre. Would definitely recommend.

Have stayed at Dukes on 4 occasions. The ownership has recently changed - the building and rooms are the same. But the service is completely different - the staff are very pleasant but spend their time saying ‘sorry - I don’t normally work at this hotel’ . Breakfast was chaotic and took an hour on both mornings of our stay - getting a jug of milk and some toast was hard work as staff appeared to be trying to cover for slow kitchen service. We were given the wrong room keys twice and observed other guests having the same problem. We returned to the hotel at 10.00pm in the evening to find reception locked up with our room keys inside - the system in place required us to ring the sister hotel and a member of staff is sent to unlock reception, retrieve our room key and then returns to the other hotel. We will no longer be returning guests.
