"First the positives: without exception the staff went over and above to look after us. Special mentions to Manuel, Maria, Dennis but everyone was lovely. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet and of course the views from the terrace and pool are just fantastic The niggles for us were that the bar and restaurant menu was very poor for vegetarians. Apparently if we'd asked them the chef could have cooked up more options. But for the first five nights we stayed we didn't know this. The other downer for us was something others have mentioned - 15 euros per person per night 'resort tax'. I think that's far too steep for use of a car park and swimming pool ( there's also a much smaller tourist tax) - for us a additional 210 euros for a week's stay. Why not put the tax into the room rate to avoid this unwelcome bill at the end?"

"We stayed sadly for 1 night only due to time constraints ! The staff are welcoming, friendly and highy efficient. The building is very well presented and is very well maintained. A stunning Victorian Style Tuscan Villa, the hotel rooms are set on 2 upper sprawling floors. lovely rooms, immaculately turned out with impressive landing areas which you can relax and use. An outdoor swimming pool in on offer as well. Breakfast is very comprehensive, served by wonderfully cheery ladies. Nothing is too much bother ! Please give it a go, you won't be disappointed !"

"This complex of hotels, log cabins, restaurant and cycle hire is not part of the Renaissance Tuscany il Ciocco Resort & Spa. Although the entrance to the site from the main road is the same. We were very pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the hotel. The view over to Barga and beyond is lovely. Our room was in the College Hotel, the building opposite Monteceneri Hotel where the reception is located. The room was a good size with a small balcony. Supplied with bottled water, coffee machine (a few pods), a desk and hanging area for clothes. The bed was large and very comfortable (we are very fussy). The bathroom had a shower and toiletries. We walked up the step road every morning for breakfast, very pleasant to listen to the birds and breath in the fresh mountain air. Breakfast was plentiful; fruit juices, coffee, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, pastries, cakes, bread/toast, jams, honey, cheeses, hams, fresh fruit and yoghurt. We ate dinner at the Locanda Alla Posta restaurant twice during our week and enjoyed both meals. Overall we enjoyed our week at Il Ciocco Hotels."

"Our hostess, instructor, and now Amica della nostra Famiglia is warm, friendly, knowledgeable, kind, funny, and very active! Rita has an amazing support team: Alex Il Uomo, Sandra, Tonya, Marina, and son Ricardo who assist Rita in maintaining a well stocked and very clean facility that includes live - fun entertainment via Alex, Rita, and Sandra in the evenings. Rita is the yeast causing each of her students to rise as they learn the finer art of preparing Tuscano cusine. The classes are fun and the final meals each day are more than delicious. Rita mixes classes with daily tours to historic towns and wineries ensuring a wonderful experience for all. Example, upon finding out I am a WWII buff, Rita went out of her way to see the students that wanted to were able tour the Gothic Line Museum. Rick, Gale, Dolly, and I now consider Rita and Alex famiglia! They have an open invitation to visit our home too! Rita, Grazie Per Tutti! "

"The property is tired and the room was very small for the charge we paid. There is an infestation of flys all around the hotel. In our rooms there were 10. We asked to be moved but they only provided a reasonable room for the last day of our trip. The staff in reception were not helpful. Overall an expensive hotel with poor facilities. Definitely not up to Marriott standards."

"The building and grounds are historic and beautiful. The service is excellent with the hotel staff looking to be as helpful as possible. The breakfast was what you would expect at a good Italian venue. Our room had an AC which is a must in August weather. We also got some beautiful views of the mountains from our windows. The hotel is not too far from some great hikes if you like being outdoors (about 25-35 min drive away) and is also walking distance from the main restaurant area. While we had a pleasant stay, we were surprised at how dated our room, furnishings and bathroom were. The bed was also hard. We also would have appreciated a heads up in advance that there would be a jazz concert on the grounds the night we arrived as we were quite exhausted from the trip only to find out we would be going to bed as early as we would have liked (to note the concert was free for guests so def a perk if you aren't tired and look fwd to some fun entertainment)."
