My wife and I are today finishing 16 days in this wonderful location. It lived up to expectations based on past reviews, which for first timers in Bali was a relief for us. Aquamarine is a small quiet mini resort. Only a handful of villas so never gets too busy. There is an on site restaurant that does very good food and snacks, plus a beach hut bar which does nice drinks also if you are by the water at the ‘almost private’ beach. Each villa has a plunge pool which is such a treat after a hot walk or just to sun yourself at your villa then cool off. The villas are spacious inside and out, with air conditioning that works well. For me the only downsides were the weak water pressure in the showers, and the bed was too firm for me (but that is a very personal matter so depends on what you like). Also there was no clothes hanging space in the second bedroom. Expect lots of mosquitoes. The villas come with lots of bug spray, repellant and coils and the beds have net curtains which work very well. If you bring an ultraviolet plug in mozzie zapper with you that will also help a lot at night…they can be defeated, with vigilance! The staff are all friendly and helpful, and will arrange drivers, day trip experiences, shopping trips or restaurant transfers, or whatever you need. Everything is very prompt and on time when advised, but the staff are also flexible, especially around cleaning your villa. Gardens are well maintained. The villas have good wifi, and an on site security man overnight and are walking distance to several nice “warungs” or restaurants if you want a change from the on-site restaurant ( we alternated). The beach the villas overlook fronts about 3 other accomodation places and is also publicly accessible by stairs but we never saw more than 5 other people there. The swimming is nice and there are some snorkeling sights to be seen but it’s a mix of coral and rocks close to shore so wear beach shoes in. Other nearby beaches are better known for swimming and snorkeling, if you want to try them. The local fishermen also use it to park their boats and mend their nets. The views are amazing, amenities like shops and chemists only 10 minutes drive away, and good day trips on offer. We came here for the quiet and the scuba diving…did several fantastic dives at Amed and Tulamben, plus a nice day trip into the hills to local (ish) tourist sites. If you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of Kuta, Seminyak etc, Amed is great and these villas will suit many. Some visitors had children but there is no ‘kids club’ or the like (which suits those of us who don’t want the extra noise!). It’s just a lovely, quiet beach stay. The staff include massage therapists and we had several lovely massages at the beachside massage bale. If we come back to Bali, would definitely come here again.
