Villas Begonias

Booked this villa and flight separately and recieved good communication with company prior to arrival. We started off on a bad foot when we arrived at midnight in a storm to a flooded villa with no electricity (in fairness it had been quite a bad storm). However we couldn’t contact the parent company on the number provided and it just rang out. The email said to WhatsApp but that also wouldn’t work so we started to Panic we’d have nowhere to stay. Eventually we managed to find the fuse box and get the electricity back on and mopped out the flooding. The following morning the company phoned back and had maintenance round by 9am to look at the fuse box, sort the air con and check all was ok. Once settled villa was lovely. Very well cleaned , plenty of space and well equipped kitchen with a small dishwasher. Pool area was lovely and private and the water wasn’t too cold. There was an outdoor dining area plus a comfier seating area and bbq plus outdoor shower area. Pool was checked by staff during the week. Some of the kitchen appliances were a bit dated and rusty and really need replacing which was a little disappointing but all were very clean. Area is lovely and quiet. It was about a 15-20 min walk to the marina along the main road but there were several supermarkets closer at around 5 minutes walk. The rockier coast of cap d’urtrutx is a 2-3 minute walk which has lovely views at sunset. For us the main issue was a drain smell in the villa which was present when we arrived and we were told was the storm. It did improve but then came back strongly the day before we left. It was worst in the main bathroom so we closed that door and used the en suite instead which wasn’t a problem but if you had 6 people in the villa then this would’ve been more of an issue. The company said it was due to the storms and it had continued to be unsettled all week so maybe this isn’t always an issue but they did seem aware of it. Despite the couple of gripes we had a lovely holiday and would probably return.

We booked the Villas Begonias for 3 weeks to celebrate our wedding anniversary, which included car hire. The villa was clean and well equipped but not parking either off road or outside the villa as it was in a cul-de-sac and yellow lines outside. The maid service was not as described in the booklet in the villa. I had to call after being there a week to see when the maid was coming. She turned up once more after that so two visits in three weeks? The pool entry is also dangerous, especially if you are not tall or a confident swimmer. The steps are in the middle of the pool at a depth of approx 1.5m and the last step was over a half meter drop. My wife is only 1.6m (5'3"). However, even with the mile walk into the marina for the main restaurants we had good weather and a relaxing time.
