Auberge l'Ile de France

Cycling le petit tren de nord from Mont Lauria this was a welcome first night stop. Jay the owner of this small hotel welcomed us. Comfortable rooms relaxed family atmosphere. 200m from the end of cycle trail in Nominique. Close to only supermarket. 10min cycle from lovely plage de nominique. Although no restaurant at present we had a relaxing evening with some tasty dinner from local supermarket. Breakfast was served. Do stop here for an evening if you are on the cycle route. Beds very comfy.

This hotel seems to be one of few in the area…so not much choice. It is a dated hotel with themed rooms. The one we stayed in was almost scary with ornate masks on the walls! It was advertised as a queen with a double and it was a queen with a single. The room was clean though and had a small frig. The owner was very nice. It has a restaurant that is no longer open, so the breakfast was in the small restaurant area. The breakfast was limited and the owner actually served you the food from behind a table so presumably you didn’t take too much?? It was bread, croissant, oranges and bananas.

Jay and his girlfriend were welcoming, and provided a locked shed for our bikes. However, he did encourage us to lock them in the shed, as he said someone had recently broken into it. The room was beautifully decorated (African design) and comfortable. The restaurant remains closed due to staffing issues according to Jay. He recommended several local places, at least one of which was closed. However he did make a reservation for us at the Golf Club restaurant which was a 10-15 minute walk down the road. It was packed when we arrived, but they did seat us. However, we then had to wait a long time (?30 minutes or more) to be served. The food was excellent (and pricey) when it finally arrived. Jay said they had no ice for my sore knee because they had recently given ice to someone else who was injured. He did, somewhat reluctantly, agree to keep my cold pack in his freezer. He said I could call him when I returned from the restaurant, but he did not answer the phone, so I could not ice my injured knee that night. More importantly, we made this reservation through ********** and received an odd message from ********** a few weeks before (the reservation) saying it was cancelled. We called ********** and they gave us a number to call Jay, but despite numerous attempts to call, we always reached a voice mail in French, which we did not understand, and then left a message which was never returned. ********** was not otherwise helpful. We finally called the Petit Tren who assured us that the Auberge was in fact open, and we ended up cancelling and rebooking. Our rooms were available when we arrived, and when we briefly alluded to this on check in, Jay offered no explanation. We had considerable angst because of this, and would not recommend booking with this Auberge because of this issue, and because of Jay's lack of accomodations, despite his friendly demeanor. Also, we needed to go up 1 flight of narrow steep stairs to our room. Breakfast was ok, but not as generous as the Best Western. There was a small amount of outdoor seating.

We stayed a night here on our trek by bike on P'tit Train du Nord. Jay made our stay most enjoyable. We arrived after having biked an hour in the rain, soaking wet! Yet Jay ushered us in and directed us to our rooms to dry off and freshen up. We were able to utilize the in-room heat pump to dry our wet clothes, which was a big help. Unfortunately, the restaurant is not currently in service. We were able to find something to eat at the nearby grocery. Jay made his dining room and dishes available to us to heat our food and dine. He even cleared our dishes when we were through! In the morning, Jay served up a fine buffet for breakfast. The rooms were comfortable. Each carried a theme and was actually furnish with items from that region. We really enjoyed our stay.

Was promised a room with single beds as was other customers. They only had one so a lot of hassle at check in. Ended up having to rent another room to accommodate all.

Owner very helpful. Their dining room is closed, but he let us use the area including dinnerware and cooking surface for the food we got from the IGA (about a 2 minute walk)

All the rooms are themed - we stayed in the nicely decorated Mexican room. It was quite and just perfect for a one night stay while we were cycling the nearby P’tit Train du Nord. The owners were extremely nice and accommodating. There is no restaurant service anymore, due to the employee shortage, but we did have a nice continental breakfast of toast, croissants, apples, bananas & tangerines in the morning. Nice place.

My host J was excellent. He knew the needs of cyclists, helped store and recharge my bicycle, made a booking for dinner, spoke excellent English. A superb host, lovely room, dry clean. Thank you J.

Stayed in the Mexico room. Host was very helpful and good to talk to. Was a restful night. Not much around. Had a good long sleep then back on the trail early. Good place to stop when on the bike ride.
