Shangri-La's Hambantota Golf Resort and Spa, Sri Lanka

Despite being a 5-star hotel in Sri Lanka, our initial experience was subpar. The room we were allocated seemed hastily arranged, lacking even basic amenities like towels. Despite calling reception multiple times, the room wasn't cleaned promptly, and we only received water the next day. The overall experience, excluding breakfast and the scenic outdoor location, fell short of expectations. Throughout the night, power interruptions were frequent, causing the AC and other devices to go off briefly before backup kicked in. The hotel staff's knowledge and efficiency in managing guest requests were lacking. During dinner, we observed identical spreads placed in three different corners, offering limited variety. The cost of approximately 8,000 rupees appeared disproportionately high compared to city hotels, considering the taste and variety of the buffet. While the hotel boasts picturesque views and a serene location, experiencing genuine hospitality may require patience and multiple requests. If you seek a peaceful location, it may suffice, but for a truly satisfying hospitality experience, it might be worth reconsidering unless you are prepared for persistent follow-ups.

Great service and staff,charuka, devuni, wasana, janitor, jayan- all staff, special mention to those in Ulpatha dining, we visited each night just for the staff, the service and care was outstanding- it was the first time a waiter offered to hold my 11month old, when my food arrived so I can eat in peace! That level of service is very rare. both our kids loved it and is a repeat visit for us! Price was reasonable, facilities were great and food was wonderful!

We had an amazing stay at Shangri-La Hambanthota. Loved it so much that we extended our stay from three nights to seven nights. We have been here before and they never disappoint. Big thanks to all the great staff. Thank you Sajith, Prasad, Wasantha and all the lovely staff. Food was excellent and the rooms were clean. Have nothing but gratitude for the hospitality. Standards have really dropped !!!! So my brother was in town from Australia, because the kids love the beaches we decided to visit Marriott and Shangrila… I understand that it’s off season and it was a weekday,so there was less crowds.But that doesn’t mean we got the hotel cheap.they really cut down on the buffet…poor combinations of food.there was no curry for hoppers.i had to request for one. Guests pay the same amount, whether the hotel is empty or full so they should maintain the standards. There were no porters.no housekeeping came to our room.no staff at the recreation Center.flying trappiez is something my kids always enjoyed and these activities were free.now they charge and also there was no staff to operate.very reluctant to operate. It seems like the whole hotel was dead.

We had an unforgettable stay at Shangri-La Hambantota. Highly recommended. By far the best hotel experience we had in Sri Lanka. Beautiful welcome with an Easy & quick check-in/ check-out process. Very Clean & spacious rooms with beautiful views! Loved the sweet platter that we got. Such a sweet gesture. Very tasty food, Loads of different cuisines, Very Large buffet and specially the kid’s buffet with separate tables, chairs, plates & cups for kids which I have never seen. 3 Beautiful swimming pools, Beautiful Environment, very clean & large indoor play area for kids, loads of other games, play areas & activities,Beach access & what not! It’s a complete package. Each & every staff member is very friendly, very kind & very helpful! Exceptional Service from security to the managers. House keeping staff is excellent. There was boy from kandy who was on duty(25th & 26th Jan 24), unfortunately I cant remember his name, his service was really good & quick. Have to mention the staff at Bojunhala restaurant. Firstly chef Ruwin for his exceptional service & very tasty food. Such a kind chef. He was always attending to everyone and completing their requests. Always checked on baby’s food and provided everything that’s needed. And Chef Thihansa made some really yummy pancakes & waffles and she served us a special mini lamb burger which was super yum! Madhu’s service was excellent. Really quick & very helpful. And when we asked if the job is hard & tiring she told us they love the job specially because of how the hotel & their bosses treat them. It was such a rare thing to hear but it made us love the hotel even more! Umayanga was also really helpful. Very special mention to Dayan who made the Yara Tea! The best yara tea we’ve ever had. Perfection! I can go on & on about this amazing place but I will stop now because we will be back soon! Highly recommended for everyone! Thank you Team Shangri-La Hambantota! ❤️

We had a wonderful experience at the hotel and the kids pool was a huge attraction for our 7 year old! The hospitality provided to us by the team at the hotel was wonderful and a big thank you to Kodi and the team for making our son’s birthday extra special with the beautiful cake

A great eco-friendly resort and a perfect area to relax and base yourself if also wanting to venture out to local safari (Yala etc) , elephant Santa, whale Watching in Marissa . The rooms were great as was Housekeeping. The main buffet restaurant serving breakfast and dinner was really good and all the chef happy to make food to order if the vast menu was not enough! We had an issue with check in but was resolved by manager Ashan Fernando to our satisfaction with some complimentary additional service ! Much appreciated. Spa was great.
