Having looked at the photos online, I was very excited to stay here. When we arrived the front door was open and a message board saying to ring the bell and someone would be there. We rang the bell and nobody came. The owner was in a room to the side of the front door having a long phone conversation and his wife was outside having a bonfire with the 5 kids. She could see us waiting so rather than come to greet us, she sent one of the kids to let the father know we were waiting. His reply to the boy was” yes I know, ask them to wait”. He finally came to show us to our room, and told us to feel free to walk around the grounds, but “not his bedroom”!!!!!!!!! The house is dirty and felt very grubby, particularly the staircase, whose carpet had not seen a hoover or brush for many many months, but thankfully the room was clean. However when I went into bathroom I noticed a used bath towel hanging on a towel rail, and there was also used sanitary towels in the bin provided by the toilet. It was totally disgusting, and the room had most obviously not been cleaned properly or checked. The bath water was brown, even after letting it run for about 10 minutes , but I understand it probably came from the pumping station on the estate, so I wasn’t worried by this. Breakfast was a bit of an odd affair, but hey, we were in a quirky place so why not a quirky brekkie. As mentioned before there is a notice to remove bedding, which we most certainly did not feel was up to us. Please don’t be put off by the negative comments, this was once an amazing grand house, and hopefully the owners will take the time to restore it to its former glory.
