Naeba Prince Hotel

Our trip to Naeba was seamless. We booked our shinkansen ticket online, so we know what time we need to be at Tokyo Station. Prior to our trip, I've booked online via the hotel website their free shuttle. As I know that we would arrive at Echigo-Yuzawa slightly before 1pm and would not make it for the 1pm shuttle, I booked 1 hour later. No worries about spending time at the station, as they are stalls and shop to look around. At 2 p.m., the shuttle bus was there, and they took our names and helped with our luggage. Although it was early in the winter season, there were quite a few number of visitors on the same bus. The bus ride is about 40 minutes. Once at the hotel, we checked in and got our keys for our room in Building 2. As the ski lift closes at 5pm, we did not plan to ski until the next day. TIPS: This would be the best time to book 1 Day Ski passes online in advance (can not same day) as you save 1,000 yen per ticket. QR Code is available on the pamphlet given by reception or at the ticket collect machine area at Buiding 3. We booked a room for 4 people, 2 on bed and 2 on the sofa bed. The space was sufficient for us, albeit have to take turns to open luggage. Resort guest also are given 1 locker per room to store your ski gears. So it was easy for us to come in the morning to retrieve our gear and head out to the snow. As this is an old resort, do not expect modern furnishing, but it has what a hotel should have and we'll maintain in terms of cleanliness. It was still early in the season (we stayed 17-20 Dec), so restaurant selection is quite limited as most are only opening after 20th Dec. On the first day, one will need to spend some time at the ski rental store as everyone queue for their gear.

1. There’s pickup and dropoff for Echigo stn  2. No shoes allowed beyond the hotel entrance 3. Front desk have a local Japanese staff that can speak English. Pretend to be nice not. Anything else , he will tell you don’t know. Go find yourself. Besides selling tickets that he will earn money. You’ll get no information from him 4. 1st day check-in, my in room hot spring tub is slimy n dirty stained wil algae. I scrub a lot out and took video. Same Japanese man came and nothing. Till I show him the algae I’ve scrub and the video, he kept quiet. Housekeeping do scrub off within 30mins 5. Breakfast is same everyday 6. Dinner, slight changes but still 99% same. 7. Child meal is hopeless.  Stayed for 5nights, same meals daily.  8. Want to bring a cake to dinner to celebrate my Daughters Birthday, we were forbidden to do so. Nothing besides what they bring to you.  9. Onsen was good 10. Basic ice cream treats.  11. Simple ramen in the evening Hotel is too rigid. It’s really expensive during our visits. The rules at dining and the same meals daily, it’s unbearable. Kids have nothing much to eat For the price, I’ll not stay in this rigid property. Many other Ryokan resort for lesser price and better options. It’s not ski in ski out and yet price are too high.
Yuzawa Grand Hotel

This is our 3rd week of 4 weeks exploring Japan and so far Yuzawa Grand is the best Ryokan Onsen experience we have had. We could have spent several days there it was sublime. We arrived in the morning and the staff were extremely welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable. We had been told by the tourist centre at the train station that the gondola wasn’t operational for 3 days; however the Yuzawa Receptionist assured us that it was operating and showed us that they were even able to sell us tickets at a discount. She gave us a map and bus timetable, showing us where everything was. They stored our backpacks for us and off we went exploring and had a marvellous time. We soaked our feet in the foot baths while having a treat before catching the bus to the mountains. We came back to our gorgeous room which had a coffee pod machine in it. Was so nice having a coffee in the morning looking out the window. We enjoyed relaxing in the beautiful Onsens before dinner. The buffet at both dinner and breakfast was incredible, everything so beautifully presented and incredibly delicious. Highly recommend this gorgeous hotel. The staff are fantastic and the ambiance very peaceful.

The location is very convenient, the hotel is new, the breakfast is very average, the food choices are very few and can only fill your stomach, the parking lot is expensive, the front desk service is generally not very proactive in helping, the price is average

Hotel is a convenient walk from the nearest bus stop, and it provides a comfortable feeling within the hotels itself. The buffet was delicious, and they feature daily changes on the rice to give an insight on the type of rice you can get from which part of their prefecture. Hotel service was great, and the comfortable night gown was a perfect touch as you wear it to call it a day when you sleep. Only thing is that there was no laudry facility in the hotel, but it was, in general a great experience.

One of the nearest accommodation to Gala Yuzawa Ski Resort and shuttle via a mini bus is available. Shuttle bus goes to Echigo Yuzawa station too. It is walking distance from Gala Yuzawa. Approach any staff at the Ski Resort with the telephone number of the hotel to request for it. Stayed there for a few night for snowboarding. Breakfast selection was fabulous with two local Japanese sake available! The room is big, clean and well furnished. It even come with a great view! Onsen street which is the street lined with restaurant is 10-15mins walk away. I recommend making reservation for dinner if you do not intend to go out for dinner. Great service is one of the key reason why I would return to stay!

Hotel has good heating so perfect for winter stay. Nice fireplace area and nice holding area before stepping out into the cold. The hotel is down a hill from the main thoroughfare. A bit slippery downhill when it becomes icy. Run like a hotel so maybe a bit cold compared to a bed and breakfast. Onsen bath seems a bit dirty with things floating in there compared to other hotels we stayed at. We needed to move to another hotel which is 2km away and the guy offered to drive us there for 2000 yen! Just 1 luggage each and no skis. So on the whole just cold. Breakfast was 1000 yen seemed simple so we skipped and opted to eat in town instead. Probably won't stay there again.

Nice hotel withe rooms of various sizes. For me it was spacious enough. Bed was comfortable, would have liked one more cushion. Room was clean an I liked that i could open the window. It was quite hot in the room because the heater was turned on. Even if i turned it off hot air came out. Room was clean and had everything i needed. You can also get things at the front desk. Breakfast was buffetstyle and really very good with a lot of choises, both Japanese, local and western. Location was very convenient near the train station. About max a 5 minutes walk. Near the hotel there are a lot of places to eat or have a drink. At the station is a shopping mall.

We stayed in a shiny new room after renovation. The newly renovated room we stayed in was not ready for a bathtub, so we only had a shower in the room. They were kind enough to offer us the outdoor bath, which is usually paid for, for free, so we went to the outdoor bath ♨️ However, the building for the paid outdoor bath was about 100 meters away from the hotel itself, and the system involved moving around outside without a roof in room slippers and a yukata. It was a blizzard outside that day, and the snow was sticky under our feet... It was dark outside, and we were given a small lantern, so we walked in the dark, into the snow. On the way to the outdoor bath in the rain... my slippers suddenly got stuck in the cold mud and both my feet were soaked 😱 cold 🥶 The outdoor bath itself was a beautifully constructed bath ♨️ built in a separate location, with a spectacular view below, but on the way back, of course, both my room slippers and feet got stuck in the cold, snow-covered mud and sand, and they were squishy, squishy, icy 🥶 and rattling :(;゙゚'ω゚'): I immediately went into the large public bath in the main hotel building to warm up my cold body again. I think it's a building built 100 meters away from the main hotel building, with the outdoor bath as the priority, with a view in mind, so I felt it would be more valuable to make it possible to move there safely and comfortably. For example, renting out rain boots on rainy or snowy days... installing footlights to guide the way to the open-air bath♨️ building... I think information about the special open-air bath♨️ (for a fee) is a must. It's a real shame considering it's such a great facility.
