The 14-hour day trip was tightly organized, but everything went perfectly. It was an ideal opportunity to see and understand these wonderful monasteries.

Today we travelled ~170 km SW to Meteora. It is world famous for its six Eastern Orthodox monasteries that are perched atop gigantic rock pillars in the mountains. The monasteries are world heritage listed; and are absolutely amazing…. certainly a “must see”. We visited three, the last being a monastery for Nuns. All have been around for some hundreds of years; and it is incredible to imagine that they were built so long ago. There is a very strict dress code to enter (we came prepared) and some of the monasteries are REALLY hard work to get to. Lots of steps; Lots of rests; Lots of sweat … but we made it. On the way home we stopped at a Greek Taverna, located at the foot of the mountains. Very authentic. Our driver (Bill) was fantastic. Very courteous, knowledgable, friendly and punctual. He was terrific.

Beautiful landscapes. Pretty easy hike, only a bit uphill.
