Zhangjiajie Tongfu Inn

The family that run the hotel are the nicest and genuinely the most helpful people i've met on my travels. They help organise your time in the nearby national park, give you maps, arrange lifts, and in the restaurant connected provide some banging local cuisine. 10/10 would recommend.

I chose this homestay because of the comments about the English speaking host, who can help with your routes through the Nationalpark. It all came true. Carol is a well informed and caring host, planing individual routes for each day. Being at the west gate has pros and cons, for me it was definitely worth it. You enter the Park ‚the wrong way‘ and therefore never have to worry about standing in queues in the morning for hours for the cableway or elevator. You still have to figure out some stuff on your own, but that’s fine. In the village itself there is not much to do, which is no problem as you are exhausted from the day hiking. If you plan on exploring the Park 3-4 days this is the best place to stay. If you only have 2-3 days and also want to visit the glass bridge or tianmen mountain, a more central stay may be to consider as they are far away and you will get stuck in the crowds.
