Lovely location and setting. History: this is a traditional ryokan celebrating their 99 year operating. The business has been in the family for three generations now. The current owner (retired engineer) speaks English and very engaging. Happy to tell you the history of the building (initially set up as a sake brewery!) Rooms are traditional design and comfortable. Onsen cave with outdoor space is unique. I liked the out door onsen the most. The private onsen is tiny and not worth it. Important: unfortunately no food is available here. They stopped served food since 2023 - don’t let the old pictures fool you. There is one eel restaurant in town otherwise you have to bring you own food in. Also you are required to pay additional onsen tax. Might not be stated but this is a nominal amount required.
