Not sure how it works if you do not know Chinese, but with Chinese they are fabulously nice, helpful and chatty. This was a rich people's mansion which had been, as many such buildings in China's history, confiscated and subdivided between many poor families. The new owners have made great efforts to renovate the rundown place in a historical style, which must have cost a fortune. At the same time, the hotel is modern with very comfortable rooms. The halls on the ground floor are cosy with many books, a coffee bar doubling with drinks for the evening. There is a little garden in the backyard. I was there off season, so there were not many guests, and the price was really affordable for the luxuries offered. On the practical side, there also is a washing machine with dryer. Xiuning is a lovely little town with many museums and historical sites within close distance."
