The Moorland Hotel

Ok, let's be real. This hotel is a little dated. It would benefit from complete redecoration. A little busy with no cohesive look or theme. But.... It was spotlessly clean and the welcome we received from Suniel at the reception desk was sunny, warm and very friendly. Throughout our short stay, nothing was too much trouble for him and he went out of his way to accommodate any need we had, maintaining his warmth each time. We booked a bed, breakfast and evening meal package and the food was absolutely delicious. Very well presented and tasted spectacular. Our room was pleasant and again very clean with stunning views of Dartmoor along with feeding lambs. My wife and I will definitely return. Suniel is pure gold who the owners need to make sure they retain, as he would be a huge reason for us returning in the future.

Staff were lovely. Very friendly and service was excellent. Breakfast was amazing. The only negative thing we could say is the building needs a little TLC

Great location, just on the edge of the moors so perfect for walkers or an evening stroll after your meal. The sheep were roaming freely around the hotel grounds and adjacent roads / moors. Room very clean and had a small balcony with views to the front over towards Plymouth and estuary. There is a well stocked bar for drinks, and dining room for both an evening meal then breakfast. I was a sole female traveller. I didnt have need to use wi-fi however there was a booster in my room should I have needed to. Hence I can't comment on connectivity or speed. I would happily return here.

The hotel location is quite spectacular with wonderful views on the moors or towards Plymouth and the coast. The staff are truly wonderful and can't do enough. The desk is staffed all day and it is easy to ask questions or make requests. The bar is comfortable with an outdoor section and the atmosphere is peaceful but friendly. The restaurant has tasty food and serves a variety of tastes. It is open in the evenings but the bar is open for drinks a lot of the time. If you want your room serviced every day, you would have to enquire about this but it is not difficult to get what you want every day. We have been coming here for some years and have always enjoyed the experience as it is an opportunity to recharge in the middle of the beautiful moors. The car park on site is quite spacious and should be enough most weekends. Given the choice we would not stay anywhere else in Devon.

A lovely few days away. The view from the bedroom was beautiful and uninterrupted right to the Plymouth Sound in the distance. Ideally situated for rambling across the moors and enjoying the wildlife and scenery. Above all the food was outstanding, so much so that we cancelled plans to eat elsewhere on the second night to dine at the Moorland Hotel again, so glad we did it was curry night. The chicken Mo-Mos were amazing and the Nelpalese Pork Curry was a triumph of subtlely layered spicing and heat. Compliments to the Chef, we will be back.

My partner and I came for a two-night stay. We arrived with a very warm welcome. Our room was lovely. Very cosy. The bed was quite high, but I think that's because I'm only 5'2 "😂 We had a bath and a shower in our room. The water does take a while to get hot but that is explained on a notice about the pump system. The hotel could do with a bit of a touch-up, but then again, so could my house. We then went down for dinner in the restaurant. I had scampi to start, and my partner had dumplings (chicken). Both were delicious, as I tried his! I had duck for my main course my partner had cod and chips. He said it was one of the best he'd had. The next day we had breakfast which you pay for. We had bacon, sausage, egg, mushrooms and grilled tomato. Toast and preserve, coffee and juice. That set us up for the day. That night we ate again in the restaurant. We didn't have starters because we wanted dessert. I had the chicken tikka masala. My partner had the sea bream. He said it was very nice. I told the chef, who was Nepalese, that his chicken tikka was the best I'd ever had. It was so creamy and not a trace of oil on the top. My partner had sorbet for dessert. I had the ice cream. Overall, we cannot fault anything. The staff were so polite and friendly, they couldn't do enough for you. I would definitely recommend this hotel. I can't wait to go back.
