The Wayside and Whisky Barn

My wife and I stayed at The Wayside for a couple of nights to explore a bit of the Lake District. It was the perfect base. Our host Emiko and her staff were very pleasant and welcoming. Our en suite room was large and airy with a view towards the nearest Fell. Everything in the, spotless, room was well-appointed and functioned nicely. We had one evening meal and two breakfasts there. All of which were made to a very high standard. The highlight for me, as a whisky drinker, was not only the impressively large array of whisky brands available in The Whisky Bar, but also Emiko's ability to provide her tasting guidance for every whisky there from memory. We highly recommend this place as a wonderful establishment from which to explore this beautiful corner of England.

An amazing find in this part of the Lakes. Emiko & Dan were perfects hosts, great local knowledge on the hikes, trails and stone circles in the area. The bar is a real highlight too for whisky lovers, amazing selection of Scottish and Japanese single malts, perfect to sample after a day on the fells!

Emiko was an amazing host, helped us plot a route up Black Combe as well as providing an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Western Lake District. Room was comfortable, food was delicious and the whisky was great! Lovely place, highly recommend.

The second time we have stayed here and it will not be the last, it is a beautiful and immaculate place to stay. Emiko is the perfect host and nothing is too much trouble. A really relaxing place to be with everything you need to be comfortable and welcomed. Highly recommended.

Visited with my daughter for a weekend away from everything. Couldn't have wished for more. Our deluxe twin room was spacious with a fabulous view. Spacious, modern bathroom with bath and shower above. Plentiful selection of teas, coffees, and biscuits replenished daily. The beds were so comfortable after a busy day walking. A good choice of continental and cooked breakfast items which are ordered the night before and prepared fresh for your chosen time in the morning. We had an evening meal on our first night, which was pre-ordered and cooked to perfection. So tasty - would definitely recommend. Emi and Dan go out of their way to make your stay special. Recommendations for walks, places to visit, and restaurants for good, local food. All staff were very friendly and helpful, including Doreen who served breakfast. The standards throughout are high in all areas. All in all, we had the perfect weekend. Would definitely recommend.

A hidden gem.in the west lakes of Cumbria. Emiko is so welcoming, and informative about the area. We visited so many places on her recommendation which we would have missed out on. The scenery at Wastwater was incredible as we're the walks up the private path behind the cottage to the fells. The accommodation is comfortable and tastefully restored and decorated and the service from all the staff is second to none. The food was fresh and tasty. We will definitely go back and may take the family next time.
