I stayed at Sempiak for 6 nights, and I had the most amazing time. I did not want to leave, and I know for certain that I will be back. What did I love? - My villa. I stayed in the Kembang villa. It was perfectly formed. I could look at the ocean from my bed, or from the shaded porch area which was perfect for the hot afternoons. It had privacy and a real sense of spaciousness. - The staff. Oh my heavens...the staff. They exude a real sense of welcome, and as time wears on, of family. Their smiles are genuine, an invitation to settle in and stay. They care. By contrast, I stayed on a resort on Gili Meno after leaving here, and I was so sad to see that the staff didn't connect with the guests on a personal level. Top marks to the management for fostering an amazing employee culture. - The restaurant, Laut Biru. I know that it can't be easy running a top-notch restaurant in Lombok; but I have to say that everything from the fruit juice to the Pad Thai was pitch-perfect and consistent. Once again, the staff are a stand-out, and the fact that some of them have been at Sempiak for 10 years + is a testament to how well-run this place is. - The beach, Selong Belanak. The first time I stepped onto the beach, I was dumbstruck with its sheer beauty and had to sit for a while to recover my equilibrium. It has soft white sand, turquoise water, and gently breaking waves which are perfect for surf lessons. Even better, half of the beach is uninhabited, which gives a lovely balance of wildness with civilisation. Also the beach is also well-used by locals, which gives a beautiful sense of community and wholeness, and a sense that we tourists aren't marginalising the local people but rather are adding to their livelihood. At night, the fishing boats are all lit up, gently bobbing on the waves like stars of the sea. To me, Sempiak is the perfect balance of luxury and nature, high standards and Indonesian hospitality. I almost don't want to write a review because I want to keep it all to myself!
