The state of the room needed looking at, the panel under the sink was detached/falling off, dirt/limescale buildup around taps was really bad. Plugs in bath and sink were disgusting, build up of hairs and dirt inside and around plugs, very off-putting when trying to wash etc. The room had scuff marks all over, doors and walls were marked and damaged in places. The main issue was with food and service. The welcome we received was cold and almost rude. We tried to order food later in the evening, with only two staff working reception, the bar, food service and cleaning it was very disappointing. Waited 25/30 minutes just to order food when we explained at the start that we wanted to take it to the room and that we would come when it was ready so we weren't rushing the already overwhelmed staff. When the order was taken we requested no onions multiple times on starters or burgers due to intolerance, both burgers came with onions and so did the starter, very disappointed with this as allergens are a big issue. Food was luke warm at best, tasted like it had been sat under a heat lamp for a while, which was annoying as I stood around waiting to collect for 15 minutes before taking it back to room. Big issues with service as it seems understaffing was a big issue, and only the one lady working was doing her best while the man was just leisurely doing not a lot. Breakfast in the morning was absolutely appalling. We arrived 1hr 20mins before breakfast finished, plenty of time to get a good breakfast and to be sure not to miss any of the hot food. The welcome was lovely and friendly, James was really nice and asked us about our plans for the day while checking us in for breakfast, advising eggs can be made to order and other details and info we needed for breakfast. Then the nightmare began, once seated we got our drinks, no issues, then proceeded to the buffet. Plenty of sausages, very tasty, well done. Bacon, there were 4 paper thin rashers sat in a thick layer of grease that looked like it had been sat under the heat lamp for maybe 2 hours too long. Sausages can survive this but the bacon looked most unappealing. Tomato's looked raw, didn't bother with those, beans had a thick skin on them, heat lamp timings again, but I gave them a mix and carried on. Hash browns were sparse, 3 in the tray when we got there, absolutely baked solid, heat lamp issues again. No black pudding at all, but we requested 2 poached eggs each, 4 total. When the chef strolled back through the restaurant to the kitchen and eventually got round to making the eggs, they came out in two bowls, obviously been thrown in a microwave, solid at the top and whites were still raw at the bottom of the bowl. All the bread and bakery items, cereal were stale due to being left next to heat lampa all morning, the two slices of white bread left were like coaster mats, even before toasting, so solid.
