Charming Blue

This hotel has been renovated to a high standard. The rooms were clean, a reasonable size and comfortable. The restaurant and breakfast were good. All the staff were very friendly and helpful too. The pool was good too and a quick dip at the end of a hot day out was very pleasant. The only downside to our stay was we were allocated room 102, which is one of three standard rooms which face onto the road (see the picture), which was noisy at times and certainly did not have a sea/pool/garden view as headlined on the website. (In the small print it says "some" rooms have a view.) So make sure you request a room which does not overlook the road.

Charming Blue is just charming! Our room was spacious and wonderful with a great balcony overlooking the pool, ocean, mountains (hills), etc. The staff was super helpful in suggesting activities and restaurants. The bar team made great drinks at reasonable prices. Breakfast was wonderful. The dinners in the restaurant could use a bit of help, but we understand the chef is new. Would we stay here again? YES! You will like it. Chic......Charming......Cozy......just darn nice!

We really loved everything about the Charming Blue! The team they have there really made our stay lovely. Thank you Pauline, Stephanie, Jorge and anyone else I forgot. From the time we arrived everyone there was very helpful in setting up rentals to organizing rides to dinner reservations. We are at the restaurant several times and found the food and local wines to be wonderful!! We had some off timing as we were there for scuba diving and the staff was happy to accommodate date with a later then usual lunch and pre-made breakfast for an early morning out on another day. If you are diving and plan to be on the boat before breakfast ask and they will made you a to-go breakfast for the next day. Everything was truly lovely (room, location, relaxing and tranquil), very relaxing and we would absolutely stay here again!

We stayed at Charming Blue for 2 nights. It is a quiet, beautiful hotel built in a renovated older building. We felt the room and bathroom were big enough and well appointed, full of light and a lovely balcony. The pool and deck are lovely. The staff was so extremely helpful in all aspects. The restaurant was delicious, I could eat the fish soup every day. The wines were excellent as well. It is in the heart of Villa do Porto and was easy to access all of the destinations in Santa Maria. We were also able to walk just a block to a very nice supermarket that had coffee and pastries. If I return to Santa Maria, I will definitely stay here again.

Pequeno Hotel bem localizado no centro da vila. Quartos silenciosos e espaçosos com cama confortável. As notas menos positivas vão para o atendimento de receção e pequeno almoço (pouco profissional e pouco atencioso) , pequeno almoço pouco variado e com mesas ao sol, almofadas da cama com fronhas por engomar ( fiquei com duvidas se estavam usadas), poliban cheio de calcário nos vidros. Sugestão: colocar mais mesas com sombra ao pequeno almoço.

We arriveerden laat bij het hotel en parkeerden onze wagen bij de nabijgelegen kerk. Het hotel heeft geen echte parking maar overal op het eiland mag je gratis parkeren en is er voldoende plek. Overigens was het hotel volledig roze geverfd en niet blauw (wat even voor verwarring zorgde) We werden aangenaam verwelkomd in uitstekend Engels. Het is een heel knus hotel. Onze kamer op het eerste verdiep was niet bijster groot maar we konden wel gebruik maken van een groot overloopterras waarop de andere kamers op onze verdieping ook toegang hadden. Vanop het terras had je uitzicht op het zwembad. De kwaliteit van de matras was prima en ik heb eigenlijk geen klachten over de kamer. Het hotel heeft een beetje een herenhuisuitstraling. Het ontbijt werd beneden geserveerd en was van een mindere kwaliteit dan in het hotel dat we hadden op het vorige eiland. Bovendien was de bediening traag in het bijvullen. Vooral het fruit (beperkt tot sinaasappels, kiwi en meloen) was vaak op. Zoetigheden zoals pastel de nata werden niet geserveerd en de koffie was oploskoffie. Vooral de beperkte keuze en het gebrek aan variatie stoorden ons. Het hotel heeft ook een restaurant voor de avonden (gesloten op maandag) Op zich een goede zaak want de eetzaken in Vila do Porto liggen niet voor het oprapen (Op een 400 meter richting het centrum ligt "Central Pub", een soort Amerikaanse pub/eetcafé waar je goedkoop de betere kwaliteit fastfood krijgt) In het hotelrestaurant eet je dus verfijnder maar betaal je ook meer dan elders. Aan het zwembad is het rustig. Er zijn steeds ligstoelen beschikbaar en het water is proper. Op zich is het een aangenaam zwembad. 's Avonds is de bar ook open. Toen mijn vrouw echter een cocktail wou bestellen gaf het meisje aan de lobby (die ook instond voor de bar) toe dat ze nog nooit een cocktail maakte. Ze heeft echter wel geprobeerd. Die van mijn vrouw was redelijk gelukt, bij mij zaten de verhoudingen helemaal fout.

Mooi hotel, vriendelijk personeel. Alleen roos niet blauw Enige minpuntje de ijskast koelde niet. Hebben ook een goed restaurant met uitstekende bediening. Mooie kamer maar ik zou de voetbankjes weglaten. Geeft een ruimtelijker gevoel. Grote praktische badkamer.

Augenscheinlich gehört das 'Charming Blue' zu den besten Hoteladressen in Vila do Porto, wenn nicht sogar auf der ganzen Insel Santa Maria. Die Anlage ist modern und mit einem Auge fürs Detail renoviert. Die traditionelle Geschichte des Gebäudes, aber auch des Ortes - wie zum Beispiel die Lavasteindekorationen an der Innenfassade - wurden mit viel Geschmack umgesetzt. Der Service ist sehr freundlich, zuvorkommend und hilfsbereit, wenngleich es manchmal, insbesondere an der Rezeption ein kleines bisschen an Professionalität fehlt, was allerdings durch eine charmante Art kompensiert wird. Die Zimmer sind ausreichend groß, sauber und mit WLAN ausgestattet. Kostenloses Internet ist komischerweise nur auf den Zimmern verfügbar. Im Aufenthaltsraum, an der Bar und im Restaurant genauso wie im Frühstücksraum und am Pool ist man auf das eigene mobile Datenvolumen und entsprechende Verfügbarkeit angewiesen. Gereinigt werden die Zimmer täglich. Sollte man auf den Wechsel von Handtüchern und Bettwäsche bestehen, muss dies ausdrücklich angefordert werden, was bei dem üblichen, transpirationsförderndem Klima auch zwischendurch automatisch passieren dürfte. Das Frühstücksbuffet ist übersichtlich, appetitlich angerichtet und bietet dem Normgenießer ausreichend Auswahl. Die hoteleigene Bar ist eine kleine Enttäuschung, da das verfügbare Sortiment nicht ansatzweise das hält, was die Karte verspricht. Auch dass ausreichend azoreanischer Wein zur Verfügung steht, ist nicht gewährleistet. Beim Wechseln des Bierfasses darf der versierte Gast mit anpacken, was allein durch den Selbsterhaltungstrieb kein Problem darstellt. Insgesamt jammert man hier auf hohem Niveau und soll nicht darüber hinweg täuschen, dass wir dieses Hotel sehr gerne und selbstverständlich weiter empfehlen.

Wat een vriendelijke en hulpvaardige medewerkers. Kleinschalige accommodatie met een goede ligging , in centrum, en sfeervol. We genoten van het ontbijt en van het eten in het restaurant onder het genot van de wijn uit de steek. Speciale dank aan de medewerkster Sofia die ons geholpen heeft toen we hulp nodig hadden. Een echte aanrader!!
