Good lodge, location, environment

The location is absolutely breathtaking, set in Tsavo West with wide views of Mount Kilimanjaro and a waterhole where elephants and buffaloes gathered daily. Watching them from my balcony was truly special. My room was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully designed. I enjoyed the peaceful pool area and loved dining while taking in the open plains. Every meal was fresh, flavorful, and served with care. A big thank you to Lillian, whose warm and attentive service made each meal feel personal. Wilson, the lodge manager, was always around, checking in and making sure everyone felt at home. And Ziyaan did a fantastic job coordinating everything behind the scenes—his support made the entire trip feel smooth and well-planned. From the game drives bush breakfasts , sundowners and a visit to Maina Springs to quiet moments at the lodge, every part of this experience left a lasting impression. I’d return without hesitation.

My husband and I stayed for 2 nights here in August. The view is absolutely breathtaking. We could have spent all day watching the animals at the watering hole. It was a little disappointing that on our last day some work was done to expand the water hole which meant we had the view of a bright yellow digger from the afternoon until we left the next morning. We understand the work had to be done and it’s for the animals but was disappointing nonetheless. The food was good overall. There wasn’t a huge range of choice but enough to create a meal. Our room was beautiful and kept spotless. We loved the balcony and sitting there watching the animals come and go - we actually saw more animals from our balcony at the watering hole than we did on our game drives! I’ve given it 4 stars instead of 5 purely because I have stayed in a more luxurious lodge in the past who offered extra touches.

OMG what an amazing hotel. Staff were so helpful nothing was too much trouble and they couldn't have been more client friendly.... an 11/10. Best bit was the location by a watering hole where we spent hours watching herds of elephants, buffalo,lions, hyenas, zebras, jackals as well as the inevitable monkeys (probably forgotten some others!). Rooms have a balcony to use as well as the lounge and it is lit to both attract the animals but get some amazing photos. I actually cried when I went onto our balcony and saw everything.... just like living in a film, but better!

This was the most memorable stay on our trip to Kenya. And it wasn't only because of the high quality accommodation, comfortable beds and plenty of amenities. The lodge is located inside the Tsavo National Park. It was due to the staff efforts to make our stay as worry-free as it could be. Special thanks goes to Dorkas - the lady at the reception, who managed to get us into the Tsavo West national park at the midnight while the park was closed at 6 p.m. She contacted the rangers, made sure that at least one of them was available to open the gate when we arrived. We were on the congested road from Diani Beach near Mombasa to Tsavo for over 9 hours and our progress was monitored by Dorkas through the Google application. The entire experience was the excellent example of the customer service where the customer was in trouble and the service provider did everything possible to help the lodge guests to remember only the very best experience in Kenya. Dorkas even arranged for us to have full dinner for three of us at 1 a.m.! The next day we went for the whole day game drive with William - the most knowledgeable guide I have ever come across We saw many more animals with William as I could imagine. Not only we took wonderful pictures, but we were explained the original of each animal, their specific place in safari and why they appear in this type of environment. Very interesting and educational. We had out 11-years old son hanging on each word coming of William's mouth. He became an expert on safari by the end of the drive. In addition to being a knowledgeable guide, he helped us to arrange for fuel supply before we left the lodge. We arrived late,ran out of gas and were afraid to stop on the road out safety concerns. William found someone who drove 30 km to the service station to get the fuel for us. We said good bye to Serena lodge with a feeling that Kenya gives travellers not only salaries and blue water beaches, but the care we enjoy and need when not everything goes smoothly. .

When you walk into the dining room for the first time and see countless elephants at the watering hole it takes your breath away. The rooms and food were great for a short stay. The breakfast at Lion Rock was incredible - it’s a true wilderness and a privilege to be immersed in it. Service was very good throughout and William was a very knowledgeable guide for our nature walk.
