Hôtel Village Montana by les Etincelles

Stayed as a group of 5 families (10 adults and 10 children) and overall had a fantastic time. Smooth check in and really appreciated the restaurant staying open a bit late as our arrival was delayed. Matisse and the rest of the team were great throughout the week and we had two reserved tables for the whole stay. Overall food was of a good standard although would have been nice to have the option of salad with the evening meals and more vegetables. Plenty of seating in the lounge but could do with a kids area for them to play/let off some steam without disturbing other guests. There is a pool table but it’s quite a small space. Good drinks options at the bar. Pool and spa were great features and spa treatments reasonably priced and enjoyable. Rooms are well appointed and comfortable beds. Great location with ski hire shop and supermarkets a few minutes walk away. Ski in and ski out was good too. Heated boot room was great! Overall it was a great hotel and we would recommend.

Lovely hotel and lovely people we had an amazing experience. Only issue is the hotel is on a hill and 10 minute walk to the ski lifts etc - so walking back from the ski lifts etc is hard work after a days skiing. Also, the ramp leading to the hotel is full of ice so we had to carry the buggy up the stairs. We slipped down the ramp initially. We did make the reception aware

Overall ok room, clean. Friendly hotel staff. Main restaurant: quite loud, soup quality is poor. Vegetarians will not get real food. Alternative restaurants are not better except the Gourmet at Les Suites which is really ok but at an additional fee.

There is no minibar in the rooms. There should be free hotel transportation to and from the ski lifts

Positive the rooms are nice and it is a good location but they was overshadowed by the horrible staff that were very anti English and so rude. I asked twice if the soap could be replenished in the bathroom next to restaurant and was told that there was no house keeping. I found this disgusting as patrons were unable to wash their hands and a lot of the restaurant was self service. The breakfast was disappointing, undercooked eggs and the bacon was either undercooked or burnt to a crisp. I was served an ice cold crème brûlée at one restaurant and when I questioned this I was told that was how it is supposed to be served, they then put their finger in my food to test it! I of course didn’t touch it after that. The waiter then called me stupid to his colleague in French. Also the pool tables you had to pay for which was fine accept the bar staff didn’t want to give anyone change without making you feel it was a great inconvenience. They could make the hotel more family friendly by providing games. I would tell anyone to avoid this horrible place.

The hotel itself is well-situated, with clean and adequate rooms. Breakfast is a basic 3-star-style setup but generally fine for most families. The overall experience was let down by repeating issues with food safety, service, and billing on our half board package. Allergy awareness and hygiene standards are poor, one child’s requested dairy-free plain burger arrived smothered in cheese and mayo, and a server came to inspect it with his bare hands at the table while another was scratching his sweaty head telling us that’s what we ordered before begrudgingly agreeing to replace. Another simple plain child’s burger for a 5-year-old came dressed as an adult dish loaded with pickles and goo forcing us to scrape them off ourselves as that’s ’how they come’ before later acknowledging they had served our child full blown adults meal and expected they could now charge accordingly. The restaurant attempted to overcharge us including billing both children’s meals as ala carte adult portions (€30+ each) and trying to charge for other items that should have been covered under half board. In the fondue restaurant, only two items on the menu are marked as included in half board—yet when we ordered them, they both still appeared on the bill. The restaurant manager didn’t understand the inclusions, was overwhelmed, and resorted to shouting across a busy dining room that his boss would be angry with him that food wasn’t being billed. Some staff are very competent here, but many are unfit for hospitality at this scale so it’s roll of the dice. The hotel has recently changed hands which may explain the issues—but that doesn’t excuse the poor service, allergy risks, and dishonest billing. Lots of better options at this price point.
