We stayed on 27.12.24 in a Stable Double room (Dancing Brave). The room we stayed in is nothing like the pictures published on Eshott Hall’s website nor the accompanying description. 1. The pillows were flat and old 2. The bed had a large rip on the right hand side of the base 3. The furniture was completely mismatched, tatty and worn 4. The kettle was rusty and filled with limescale 5. The fitting of the bathroom was more befitting of a budget hotel 6. There were stains in numerous areas of the carpet 7. There were numerous cobwebs on the ceiling and chandelier 8. The shower plug hole was dirty 9. There was a smell of drains in the bathroom upon waking in the morning 10. The radiator under the window was full of dirt/dust and cobwebs 11. Poor finish throughout - paint on radiator, mascara/black mark on mirror, cracks and paint issues on ceiling, scuffs on walls 12. General lack of cleanliness - dirty net curtains, rust/dirt/mould around bathroom shower screen etc 13. Cobwebs on chandeliers in restaurant 14. Dirty marks and food splatters on curtains in restaurant 15. General disrepair of hotel drawing room - multiple large cracks on walls and overly painted period features We had arrived just after 5pm (so it was dark) and debated asking for a room change before having dinner, but when we tried to speak to the receptionist at around 8pm, no one was available. We therefore decided against raising our initial issues due to the inconvenience of moving after dinner if another room was available. On returning to our room after dinner we noticed more issues. We tried to call reception and the night porter on a number of occasions for over 30 minutes but the phone was not answered. We therefore gave up and went to sleep. Although the staff we dealt with were very hospitable and the food was, for the most part, good, the room was far below the standard expected based on the images and descriptions published by Eshott Hall. We raised the issues on check-out with the receptionist and she apologised for our experience. She informed us that the hotel has recently been acquired by another hotel group and will be totally refurbished in 2025 - desperately needed and long overdue in our view! I was provided with the card for the general manager and I emailed the next day. I have chased for a reply but have still received no response 2 months later! The same has happened with the travel website we booked through. Recommend you avoid this hotel - it is not worth the money and is nothing like the image portrayed online.
