Aging hotel with hints of a by gone era. Staff are friendly and helpful though English may be lacking (just a heads up to have your favorite translator app working). Breakfast is ok but options are limited in the area. The onsen facilities are great. Overall I think I got value for what I paid for.

I lived in a tatami room with a toilet in the room and no shower, but the hotel can take a bath. Soaking in the winter will warm your hands and feet. It is better than a shower. It doesn't matter if the room does not have a shower.
