Our hosts Garth and Angie, were wonderful. Extremely welcoming and knowledgeable about the area and the culture. Delicious breakfasts prepared by Angie—fresh baked bread which was terrific. Garth is a talented barista. Beds very comfortable. Decor very tasteful. All needs provided for. We enjoyed feeding their sheep as well! Garth picked us up in Aukland and we had a very informative and entertaining ride to Taupo with him. Learned a tremendous amount about NZ Highly recommend!

It’s super comfortable here the hosts Angie and Garth were amazing hosts. We felt right at home and the grounds are beautiful! The are large trees all around the property and there are sheep onsite. The breakfast was great We would stay again!

This was like staying in your New Zealand friend's home! A real taste of the country. The lodge was well designed and furnished in a very homely way. We stayed in Ruapehu suite which was lovely and had everything we wanted including a patio to sit out. Angie and Garth were excellent hosts - they looked after us very well. We ate in for two evenings and Angie's cooking was excellent. The first was a four course dinner and the second was a gourmet (and it really was!) pizza. All with NZ wine of course. Thank you so much for looking after us so well.

Our first stop during our 3 week New Zealand adventure was the Whakaipo Lodge. It was the perfect place to stay. Angie and Garth are great people and wonderful hosts! They provided delicious food - breakfast was amazing - and also took the time to help us plan things to do while in Taupo. We even got to feed their sheep, which was a lot of fun. It was such a memorable experience to stay with Angie and Garth - they made us feel right at home. We cannot think of a better place to stay to kick off a New Zealand trip. We highly recommend their lovely lodge!

Garth and Angie will wonderful hosts. They offered great suggestions of what (and what not to waste our time on) while on our stay in Taupo. They are a wealth of information. Breakfasts were delicious and Angie accommodated my gluten intolerance with the food choices. Our stay at Whakaipo Logde was the first place we stayed on our 2 week tour of NZ- a perfect place to start. For all the americans ( "wh" in the Maori language is pronounced as an "f" sound, hence Whakaipo Lodge is prounounced as "fakaipo.") The location is great and their property is beautiful. The room and ensuite are well appointed.

What a fabulous find - Whakaipo Lodge is run by Angie & Garth who were the perfect hosts- friendly and very knowledgeable. We were greeted with canapés and drinks in the garden on the day of our arrival - such a special touch, and breakfast was delicious- cooked to order. The accommodation is not super modern but comfortable and homely and immaculately clean, which was perfect for us. The drive into Taupō was around 10 minutes - we went into town to eat twice and the food was good - taxis plentiful - a special shout out to Sorrento Italian Restaurant - the food was delicious. If we return to the area in the future- Whakaipo Lodge would be the top of our list for accommodation - would highly recommend .

We two stayed with Angie and Garth for two nights to take in their Summer Concert, which was a fantastic event on Whakaipo's sunny lawn and garden. On arrival Angie and Garth were effusive with their welcome into their lovely home and showed us to our well-equipped suite. Everything was catered for, including cheeses and snacks in our fridge. Dinner was not included in our package, but A&G invited us to the local pub (The Fish in Acacia Bay) for pizzas with them. We truly felt part of the family when introduced to their friends at The Fish. (btw - the pizzas at The Fish are amazing and the rest of the menu is pretty damned good too.) Breakfast is an event at Whakaipo with Garth's excellent coffee, beautiful meusli, youghurt, fruit, pastries, etc. And hot bacon and eggs on request with home-made toast. Angie and Garth go the extra mile! We thoroughly recommend Whakaipo.

Exceptional place to stay near Lake Taupo. Garth and Angie are exceptionally welcoming and eager to provide hints and tips to make the most of your stay. The day we arrived happened to coincide with a visit from Angie's Mum who emigrated to NZ from the North East of England not far from where I was born and raised. so we had a very pleasant chat over the pre-dinner canapes served in the lounge. Dinner, prepared by Angie with a flight of wines curated by Garth was delightful. Set in quiet surrounds the Lodge is beautifully presented and very comfortable. Excellently hosted and well worth a visit.

The Whakaipo Lodge is an absolute treasure located in Taupo. The room is extremely comfortable and with hosts like Garth and Angie, unbeatable. We had a blast sharing time with both of them, who made us feel completely at home in their wonderful place. Breakfast was a real treat and having both of them provide tips of what to visit and even things to see during our further travels was fantastic. We even got a kick out of watching them chase the broken out sheep back into their fenced area. The level of detail to their guests needs makes the Whakaipo Lodge one of the very best places that we stayed at during our holiday in New Zealand and we would highly recommend it to everyone staying close to Taupo and the surrounding area.
