Basecamp Masai Mara

We stay here for three days. It was a fabulous experience, Ben was fabulous with every meal and Lewis was fabulous in storytelling and entertaining. Very genuine people with a mission and a story about why they are doing this and how they want to run. loved every bit of the experience :):)

Base camp Masai Mara was our final destination on a two week holiday in Africa and what a way to end! Firstly the camp - the tents were really comfortable and well spaced out allowing privacy and views of the Talak river. The food plentiful and delicious, more than you could possibly need. The staff an absolute credit, all so friendly and helpful in every way. And then the Safari’s, we had Tonkei as our guide and he made sure we saw so many wonderful animals, whenever he could, away from the crowds of jeeps. giving us the opportunity to watch and photograph the animals in their wonderful habitat. Whilst at base camp we also took the time to visit the Enjoolata centre where the locals especially ladies are supported to make a living and gain training.

Had an amazing experience with my family at Surani base camp. The accommodation is fantastic; clean, comfortable and very spacious for a family of 5. The staff are all so very friendly and went out of their way to make us feel very welcome. John, our safari guide was first class and made sure we got to see all of the animals we wanted to see and also to arrange other activities we wanted to do. Highly recommend this place for a holiday of a lifetime.

Basecamp Masai Mara was our first safari experience - and they set a very high standard ! The family tent was spacious, extremely practical, clean and had a great view of the river. The restaurant served really good 3 course meals and could cater to our vegetarian needs. Each meal was so different and we looked forward to meal times ;) the view from the restaurant is fantastic - and there’s always an animal in sight. The safari route was within the national reserve and we had great sightings. Highly recommend a stay here !

Saruni Basecamp Mara is a luxury eco camp located in the heart of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. Location - Situated along the Talek River in a lush forest, the camp has a serene atmosphere. Birds and monkeys live just outside the tents, all built along the banks of the river on the border with the national reserve. The camp's location allows you to see across onto the plains and watch zebras and topi in the distance. We were able to access the park by simply walking over a cable bridge across the Talek River to the land cruisers and immediately see animals. One day a giraffe was standing in the parking spot for the land cruiser when we got back to the camp. Camp - Our tent had an en-suite bathroom with hot water shower, comfortable king size bed with warm blankets and fluffy pillows and a private terrace. Enjoy the amazing wildlife from the comfort of your tent, or the fig-tree platform. Wildlife - The game drives were spectacular. Our guide Bandi and tracker, Louis, were excellent at locating wildlife and getting us in position for a great photo opportunity. I loved the open air dining room at the edge of the river where you could watch zebras come to drink, giraffes stroll by or the buffalo stare at you from across the river. Staff - The team who manage Basecamp Masai Mara are from the local community and are the proud landowners who benefit from tourism and conservation. The Camp Manager made it a point to be very available for any questions or issues.The staff was beyond gracious, friendly and helpful. When it was dark, you always had a Maasai warrior to escort you around as the camp is not fenced. I always felt very safe! In the evening there is a turndown service that provides hot water bottles when it is cool. They also handled our flight and transfers to and from the camp for a worry free stay. Recommend! It’s always been a dream of mine to go on Safari ever since I was a little girl & this year I finally took the plunge. I originally found out about the camp through TikTok / Instagram & it was such a lovely experience. The staff was incredibly nice & welcoming. There are not enough kind words for them. My tour guide Alfonzo, was incredibly knowledgeable & patient. It was so cool seeing the animal up close & just how calm they are around people
