We stayed at Hotel Egilsen based on a recommendation from friends who visited Iceland a couple of years ago, and it was an excellent choice. The hotel exudes a cozy, homely charm, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our two-night stay was wonderful. On our first night, we were greeted by Chris (Krzysztof), who helped us check in. He was fantastic—friendly, approachable, and easy to chat with. Knowing we were hungry after our drive from Reykjavik, he not only recommended an excellent seafood restaurant but also helped us secure a reservation. The hotel features 10 guest rooms and a charming common area downstairs with several tables where guests can relax, enjoy a hot tea, and read a book. Complimentary coffee and tea are provided, and for a small fee, you can purchase beer, wine, or even a fine drink like Johnnie Walker. The ambiance is delightful and inviting. After dinner, my wife and I spent a couple more hours chatting with Chris, who gave us fantastic recommendations for exploring the peninsula. The next morning, we were warmly welcomed by Marta, who prepared an incredible breakfast. The spread included smoothies, salmon, cheese, yogurt with granola, and fresh fruit—everything was fresh and delicious. Marta was equally friendly and easy to talk to, making us feel right at home. It’s clear that both Chris and Marta genuinely love what they do. Their passion for hospitality and their enthusiasm for interacting with guests are evident in everything they do. If you’re planning to stay in Stykkishólmur, Hotel Egilsen should be at the top of your list. We visited in November 2024 (off-season) and stayed on a Saturday and Sunday. We’re already planning to return with our kids next time we visit Iceland and will definitely stay here again.

Cozy, clean, hotel, with friendly staff. I took a solo trip in Iceland and got a warm welcome and hot tea from staff as soon as I arrived. It was cold and windy, and my third floor room was small and very cozy and comfortable. Breakfast was huge and delicious. I highly recommend this small hotel. It was one of my nicest stays in two weeks of travel in Iceland.

Beautiful Icelandic hotel in the heart of a small fishing village. Staff was so friendly and helpful throughout the entire stay. We really enjoyed our time here and were even able to see the northern lights from our room. Breakfast in the morning was also lovely

Excellent wee hotel with views of the harbor, the sea, and the town. The service is friendly, and a nice breakfast (cold) is available for a modest fee. We were quite comfortable in the tiny but very charming room. Even though the room is tiny, it is very well laid out, such that it meets all your needs - the owner clearly pays a great deal of attention to efficient, functional details without skimping of quality and style.

Elegant, and well restored! Loved the cozy feel, excellent attention to detail, helpful staff, comfy bedding & bed, awesome shower and relaxed atmosphere! Enjoyed happy hour and early am coffee & breakfast! Highly recommend! Also, could see Walter Mitty house from my top floor room, which felt a smidge *******, but no problem.

We chose the Hotel Eglisen because of its size (it only has 10 rooms). The ground floor bar and sitting room, where breakfast is also served, is cozy and welcoming. Our room was small but very comfortable with a gorgeous bed. Breakfast was absolutely fantastic with a great selection of juice, fruits, smoked salmon, cheese, eggs and homemade fruit bread. The undoubted crowning glory of our stay were the staff who were so friendly and helpful: nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for a memorable stay.

What a gorgeous little hotel. Friendly staff, retro decor, comfortable with a great breakfast . Really enjoyed our stay which wasn’t long enough. Breakfast was delicious home baked bread , fruit , cheese , salmon and skyr . A very quaint little fishing village

While the rooms are really small there is a whole lot to like about this hotel: the historic building, very nice staff, the location close to the harbour, nice furniture and the really good breakfast. You can smell the freshly baked croissants (excellent!) and bread which motivate you to get up. Everything is served at your table: the fruit plate, the smoothie, the skyr with berries and much more. Highly recommendable!!

Very pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. Staff are very nice and helpful.. Cosy, simple in a good way, clean, perfectly located and quirky in a charming way. Breakfast is very very nice with a good variety of fresh food. We really enjoyed staying here. Would recommend it.
