After climbing the stairs to reception, collecting my key card, then walking a long way through corridors, I walked into the room and it was filthy. The rubbish bin was overflowing, the sheets in the bed were (very!) used, the bathroom had a pile of used towels in the floor and clearly nothing had been cleaned. After trudging all the way back to reception (at this point incredibly thankful I didn't have much luggage) I queued to explain the issues. The woman at the desk didn't seem at all surprised. Just said, 'Oh, someone didn't clean it. I'll issue a different one.' The second room was at least clean, but freezing cold. Below 16 Celsius overnight. Switching on the room heating did nothing. Turns out the hotel had it switched off. Overnight temperatures that week were below zero, daytime temperatures were single figures. The only saving grace was the breakfast, which was decent and they are careful about allergies and staff in the dining room were cheerful. No apology was received from the hotel - not even a token gesture such as free breakfast after giving me a filthy room then a freezing one. As I checked out a man in a wheelchair was having problems as his family booked an accessible room but they didn't have one for him. I would not stay at this hotel again.
