Salt Box is a fully renovated beach shack in the Lettes Bay heritage-listed melee of little shacks that were holiday homes for miners dating back to the Mt Lyell Mining & Railway Co. Glorious waterfront view, it’s subject to the foibles of Strahan’s weather. The shack has functional spaces with a queen bed, kitchenette and nice en-suite. Lounging and seating is really only for 2 people at best, as space is tight. Furnishings were good quality, crockery of high quality and we were provided provisions for a basic but generous continental breakfast. Surprisingly lots of cooking utensils and condiments on the shelves, as was quality plunger coffee and tea. No Aircon, but it was 2 degrees outside in March. Insulation and feather doona meant no need to use electric fireplace included. Good Wi-Fi. Due to space, the bed is all the way up against the wall. The owner has made a decent effort to furnish with high quality bedding and towels. Parking is on the public cul de sac. We had a hiccup on check-in but was sorted out with satisfaction. Definitely a unique property in Strahan, highly recommended for those who want a rustic environment in a beautiful bay, but with home luxuries. Remember, it’s small.
