Craven Heifer Hotel

Visited for breakfast this morning, Amazing food, best breakfast we’ve had in a long time! The lady who served us was lovely, we walked up with the dog and didn’t realise they aren’t aloud in the pub but we was able to sit in the beer garden with him ☺️

I stayed for one night at the Craven Heifer at the end of May, prior to running in a nearby trail race. I quite often stay in rural pubs with my running and the Craven Heifer is one of the nicest I`ve stayed in to date. It`s an absolute bargain for what I paid, as I`ve stayed in many places that were much more expensive and nowhere near as nice. It`s a proper country pub, full of character, with really friendly staff, all set in a picture post card village. My room was, modern, spotless, comfy, quiet and I slept log. I had fish and chips for my evening meal, which were cooked the old fashioned way and were perfect, washed down with a couple of pints of perfectly kept Tetley`s Cask. My only regret, is that I didn`t get to sink a few more on the lovely little terrace area, that runs alongside the river at the side of the pub !!!! In in all all, a perfect stay and I wouldn`t hesitate to go back.

Stainforth village is great location for Dales walks. Craven Heifer a good value choice for B&B. The room we had was warm/spacious/comfy/en-suite. Staff very friendly. Food was basic but generous portions. (Excellent homemade steak pie!) The bar was a bit noisy on Saturday night, but it didn’t bother us. After all, it is a traditional pub - it was good to see it thriving!

Called in for a coffee after a lovely walk to Stainforth Force but unfortunately our visit to Stainforth was spoiled by the "welcome" at the Craven Heifer. Despite the fact that the pub was very quiet we were told that they couldn't serve us some coffee. Do these establishments want business...I don't think so. Another example in a long list of poor hospitality we have experienced in our week long stay in the Dale's.
