Les Douvres Hotel

Just had the most super meal, I ordered a homemade chicken and mushroom pie which came with a delicious white wine sauce, the pastry was heavenly and served with perfect mash and green beans in garlic the whole dish was amazing. My wife opted for cod with butterbean cassoulet which she devoured with gusto!

Had a bad experience this Christmas here, My wife usually stays here when she comes over as its conviniently located near her parents, This Christmas eve we were booked in here for 3 nights the flight was planned to reach Guernsey for about 5pm however we had delay's due to the weather and eventually landed just before midnight. We had made the hotel aware we would be late on a few occasions giving them an updated eta each time we where told at the airport. When we landed we got a taxi to the hotel at roughly midnight and could not get any answer at the door or by telephoning the hotel we ended up having to stay at my wife's sisters house on the floor who lives at the other end of the island. When we turned up to check in the next day it was 9:35AM we where offered no explanation, apology or refund for the night we didnt stay with them. Breakfast which we had booked also finished at 9:30AM which is fair enough but when we asked if there was anything left they simply said breakfast had finished and we couldnt have anything. The staff member dealing with us was quite rude but it was Christmas day and we had a busy day planned so we just got to our room and carried on with our day. Our flights leaving where also delayed by 2 days so we needed to book into a hotel for a further 2 nights we booked the La Villette and had a much better experience the staff at La Villete where much friendlier and breakfast was great. We wont be using Les Douvres again it is in a good location for our needs but the overall quality of the hotel is poor and the staff are rude and not very hospitable and having such a bad experience has left quite a bad taste, Had we not had family on the island we really would of been stuffed.

The hotel is beautiful but our experience was ruined by the fact the hotel choose to close the pool during our stay and there was a very loud party on our last night which kept us awake (aggravated by the fact we had an early flight the next morning). While I understand the hotel website states the pool is open between May and September, it was sold to us as a hotel with a pool and they choose to close it on 20/09 which was a very hot sunny day. The party on the Saturday was so loud, our room floor was vibrating, we could hear people shouting all night. We did speak to a staff member about it who apologised and confirmed that lots of other guests had complained. She suggested they would shut it down but an hour later the music was still blasting out. I feel we paid good money to stay in a nice hotel with a pool but it felt like a rowdy youth hostel. I would strongly recommend against this hotel.

Lovely hotel in nice, quiet surroundings. The style of decor is colonial/eclectic and the accommodation is very clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. Our room was on the ground floor near the pool and was spacious and pleasant. The walls/insulation is not good though and you can hear conversations from neighbours and footsteps from above - or in our case someone with hobnail boots jumping from one side of the room to the other! We didnt let this bother us though and generally got good sleep overall. Breakfast was cereal, pastries, yoghurt and toast with cooked items available for extra cost (we booked through booking so only continental was included which was fine). We didnt eat or drink in the hotel but the restaurant was full most nights. Apparently the home made pizzas are well known locally. All in all a lovely stay and I would return. My only criticism apart from the sound proofing was no fridge in the room which would have been helpful.

We stayed here with our 2 children age 9 and 6. The room was spacious but could possibly do will a little updating, but that did not spoil our stay. The staff are fabulous! Nothing was too much trouble and everything was down with a smile. Breakfast was lovely and relaxed. The restaurants food was great and the atmosphere in the bar was super. We are moving to Guernsey in the new year and look forward to visiting Les Douvres once again.

What a wonderful hotel! Quirky, peaceful,clean,comfy beds and above all, brilliant staff. The manager, Michael is just amazing. Nothing is too much trouble. It is a very busy hotel, particularly in the evenings, but hey, the food is good so to be expected! Service is quick, but does that matter if you're out for an evening? Fascinating people watching! The gardens and pool area are lovely and the pool is warm too! Can't praise this place too highly and would certainly stay again, thank you Michael and team xx
