It was a large and beautiful property. Everything is perfect about this resort. The seaweed is very bad right now. So the beach is not too enjoyable. The landscaping is very nice! The beds and pillows were comfortable. The food was just okay. It’s pretty much the same stuff everyday with no flavor. But that’s at all resorts. The only thing we had issues with is the staff. No one seemed to be happy doing their job. You ask for something and they make faces, they act like you are bothering them. And, it wasn’t just one or two. It was at every meal we went to. And, we are tippers for everything. But the way they would respond, and have attitude. Made us not want to tip. So that’s definitely something mgmt needs to work on. The employees. I asked for two clean towels. The woman smacked her teeth and basically threw them at me. But other than that. Everything was great!

What a fantastic stay we had at the Barcelo Maya Colonial! We were so impressed by the quick and prompt support we received whenever we needed assistance. When our room had a minor leak, or we needed extra towels, or even a replacement remote control for the TV, the staff responded almost instantly and resolved everything with a smile. It truly made a difference and allowed us to relax without any worries. The premium staff went above and beyond, making our vacation truly seamless. Booking spa services and securing restaurant reservations was handled with such ease and professionalism. Their friendly and attentive nature made every interaction a pleasure. We wholeheartedly recommend the Barcelo Maya Colonial for both families and couples. The resort offers endless activities, incredible shows, and a fantastic variety of cuisines that will satisfy every palate. We can't wait to return to this wonderful hotel!

Beds were comfortable, bedding was nice and cool, food we only have one option for restaurant and was a buffet it was ok, the other restaurants you have to do reservations probably before the trip. We tried many times to see if they had cancellations and they were always full.

The rooms need to be updated. From the ventilation system to the decor. Our sheets felt damp every night. We tried to change the AC temp and everything nothing worked. After we checked we were told to go guest services to schedule our dinners. But guest services never told us what other amenities were offered to us. We upgraded to premium and again no one told what extra amenities that were offered to us. Fortunately for us we met a random guest that taught what we get. They showed us some of the amenities and where the premium guest services office was at. I wish the customer service was better. Overall the resort and all the resorts were absolutely beautiful. The services at the bars and restaurants was awesome as well. Customers is not good at all.

Overall this is a fabulous place to stay. Great value and so beautiful. Only bad thing is the poor dolphin’s that they still have on their property. No shade, tiny pool for four dolphins. They are no longer allowed to hold performances, but the dolphins continue to suffer. Will not return to any Barcelo property until these beautiful animals are rescued.

I sent in a request and a few questions and the resort never responded. They tried answering the questions after i arrived and didnt grant me my request for 2 double beds as they cannot accommodate the request. Bc they over book rooms apparently with families of 4 or more. Reservations are a nightmare, you are lucky if you get even 2 in a week and if you want a specific restaurant its only what they tell you is available, so you might have to choose your last choice. One review mentioned when you walk by the dinners you can see half the restaurant is empty, so you are forced to eat at the buffet bc thats the only option. The buffet food is the worst food. Almost everything is so over cooked and dry. Definitely the worst food ive experienced at any vacation to all inclusives, cruises etc in the last 18 year (No bugs or flys) just not good at all. Entertainment is similar, shows at night. Also almost everything comes with cost. If you are traveling with kids be prepared to pay alot of extras for the mall area. Even Put put, cost if you dont go early enough. They told me about $12 per person after 7. We came back from xel ha 2 nights before we left and the roo. Smelled like sewage and there were a massive amout of small kinda nats on the bed and throughout the room. When i tried getting it resolved it was almost as if the front desk was trying to keep us in there. Maintance could tell me there was some infestation in the air-condition but wasnt sure where the smell came from

My 6th visit to the resort & was there 2 months prior to this trip in May at Tropical. Only issue I had was getting an ala carte reservation for 4. Went into guest services 6 times and they would tell us every restaurant was full until the 21st. Called from room numerous times & was told the same thing. I talked to many people who were getting numerous reservations during the week we were there . So not sure why the were feeding us this BS our whole trip.

The staff is very friendly and property is clean and taken care of. The food was a disappointment, lots of junk food, not many healthy choices and very crowded during meal times. The beach areas are nice, however it is quite difficult getting into the water, although it seems like a sandy beach, there are a lot sharp rocks at the bottom of the sea. Check out the eco park Kantun-chi across the highway, the underground river tour was amazing.
