Villa Pioppi Hotel

Spent 2 nights in the top floor family room in the newer block which was a lot more modern than the actual hotel. It had a huge terrace with fantastic views across the lake. Clean and spacious room. We ate breakfast and evening meals at the hotel which were all excellent. Great to be able to swim in the lake as hotel has its own private jetty. Not many other restaurants nearby but lots of restaurants and THE BEST gelato about a 25 min walk away in Sirmoine Town centre.

Driving down a weed-filled drive in which young men were lounging about, we were (hardly) greeted by a very surly receptionist/manager in a dirty dress and untidy hair, after we had gone looking for her down the stairs to the restaurant - which were cracked and dirty. She showed us to our rooms and, first problem: we couldn't get the keys to work in the locks; they were so old and badly fitting that the woman had to open the doors for us. The room was sparse, the bathroom was basic, and nothing was as it had appeared in the attractive photos. We had to step over a bucket of dirty water used to mop the floors. The upshot was that we couldn't bring ourselves to stay there, it was so awful. Despite having paid a deposit for the two rooms for a night, which we didn't use, the hotel took the full amount for the 3-night stay without telling us. So I lost over €1000 despite my objections. I think that's dishonest.

Liked · Exceptional hotel set in a beautiful old renovated building. It also has a modern addition which is separate from the old building. But one can see that great care was taken when this property was converted in a hotel. Great location in the city of Sirmione, outside the historic centre but close enough. The hotel has large private grounds, and therefore very tranquil and relaxing. Stunning view of Lake Garda, and hotel is also surrounded by lush greenery. Our room was in the new section, with modern design and comforts. We had a room for 3 and it was huge.. it had a private entrance, a large terrace, and a very comfortable bathroom with a large shower. I also liked that we could regulate the room temperature rather than having central heating. Private car park with plenty of parking. The pool area is beautiful, right on the edge of the lake, where one can enjoy the sunset. A restaurant is also available on site and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The buffet breakfast is truly good with a generous choice of both savoury and sweet items. One evening we also enjoyed an exceptionally good meal with very reasonable prices. I would also add this hotel is probably great and very safe for families. My 5 year old really enjoyed herself, especially watching the ducks and various other birds that often landed in the property. All in all, exceptionally good value for money.. it exceeded my expectations by quite a lot Disliked · There's nothing I disliked - it was perfect in everything. I do have one suggestion - it would be nice if the fridges in the rooms are stocked with drinks, even just water. Since I travel a lot, I appreciate finding drinks available in the room rather than having to get my own drinks
