The Majlis Resort

My husband and I stayed at Majlis for our honeymoon in August. We had a fabulous time. The staff is incredible and made sure our stay was comfortable and we were well taken care of. Samim, one of the managers, took care of us very well and was able to help us with any questions we had. Thank you Samim! The food was delicious (still thinking about their Asian cuisine and green tea cheesecake). We took a beautiful sunset dhow ride that was absolutely breathtaking and romantic.. it was so special!! Would definitely recommend Majlis to anyone looking to unwind, relax, and have a calm and quiet vacation. Thanks Majlis!

The hotel is very well located on Manda island with huge rooms and bathrooms A few restaurants to choose from for your meals and an amazing sun set venue

My wife and I were celebrating our silver wedding Anniversary and looked forward to making it a memorable one. Despite our travel agent having informed the hotel about our Anniversary celebration.... Nothing special was done by the hotel to appreciate our stay. A simple slice of cake would have been appreciated. They had indian chefs but no elaborate indian menu. The hotel was fully booked but all meals other than breakfast were table dot. There was no room for second helping.... you PAY. A beautiful destination but clearly watered down by not recognising simple acts of kindness and can't help but feel stinginess.

Our stay at The Majlis Hotel in on Manda Island - neighbouring Lamu was nothing short of amazing. Set right on the beach with stunning views of the Indian Ocean, and beautifully designed Swahili-style architecture immediately made us feel relaxed and welcomed offering a perfect mix of traditional Swahili charm and modern comfort. From the warm smiles at check-in to the attentive service throughout, the staff were outstanding — always friendly, professional, and genuinely caring. Housekeeping, restaurant staff, and front desk all delivered seamless service that made us feel truly looked after. The food was excellent, with a great mix of Pan Asian, Mediterranean, and local dishes, all made with fresh ingredients and full of flavor. Special thanks to Mr. Samim, the manager, who went above and beyond to ensure everything was perfect. His personal attention and genuine care for guests truly stood out and made a lasting impression. If you're looking for a quiet, luxurious escape with top-tier hospitality, The Majlis is the perfect choice in Lamu.

The best thing about this place is the furniture and architecture resembling the old Arabic style that existed in this religion long ago. The food was terrible, marketing that they have different restaurants is laughable as they all have the same menu. The bread was always stale, burger was probably one of the worst I have had in a while. The staff was horribly trained. Took 20 mins to order water, some of the staff are quite rude (although most of the staff were kind and helpful—shoutout Mike for the bike ride. The bartenders were never attentive and when sat down at the restaurant they would avoid eye contact until we had to go up as ask what the deal was. I ordered a drink to the pool, and after an hour of waiting, I asked one of the waiters where it was, and they had forgotten. Despite the intense heat, not once did anyone ask us if we wanted water—had to ask ourselves, which sounds pretentious but this was marketed as a 5 star, so that is the bare minimum. At dinner, they moved us twice from our table to a table right next to the grill which smelled of smoke, saying there was another family that had booked the table we were originally sitting at (even though the receptionist said at the beginning that you do not need to book for any of the restaurants, which turned out to be false). Lo and behold, nobody ended up sitting at that table so we were moved for no reason. There were people smoking in the restaurant on New Year’s Eve, who were also quite rude and disrespectful of their surroundings. Probably friends or family of the owners, who I’ve heard from other reviews are horrible and racist people. Again, beautiful hotel, but I am never coming back.

The stay at Majlis was really good. The service and food are a 10/10. The staff were caring and ensured that our stay was comfortable. The hotel is clean and well maintained. There is art all over the property, so this is especially great for art lovers. The food was so, so, so good. Lots of areas to lounge outside the rooms. Truly tranquil. I highly recommend the resort. The beach was clean and very nice for walks The beach bar and restaurant is great for sunsets
