The Chenrezig Hotel is in a great location, near the train station and some attractions like ancient town.  Shangri La is like an old town to me but this hotel is modern, high end and well decorated and well thought out.  The hotel room has humidifier being the providence is in high altitude.  Everything looks new and clean.  The staff is great, friendly, helpful and polite, and provided excellent service.  Everyday around 7 PM the hotel also provided a small plate of fresh fruit and some warm Chinese dessert soup.  They offered a set breakfast menu with a Chinese and Western options.  The hotel also has two washers and a dryer for you to do your own laundry.  If you are going to Shangri La I highly recommending staying with them.
