It’s below average hotel. The room wasn’t very clean and the service is just okay.

Perfectly located hotel. Walking distance to a lot of great cafe’s. Not too far from the Metro if you wish to use it. Rooms have been updated since our last stay. Beds are comfortable with a clean bathroom and an automatic toilet. Rooms were cleaned daily with added water bottles.

I was terribly disappointed with our stay in this Howard Johnson from Nov  11 to Nov 16 for below reasons: 1) During the check in on Nov 11 afternoon,  the lady at the front desk failed to find my reservation with my passport so I gave her a hard copy of my trip.com reservation confirmation. However, she forgot to give it back to me. The next day when I asked for it at the front desk, I was told it had been thrown away. No big deal but a little surprising. 2) After I moved into my room 1301 on Nov 11 afternoon, we flushed the electronic toilet by pressing the button on the left side of the toilet bowl. However, the button failed to bounce back. The result was a disaster because the toilet water flooded my bathroom. Your serviceman told us we should have used the remote control but we didn't know and nobody ever explained to us how to use the remote control. Another problem was that whenever we walked by the toilet, the seat automatically went up which was very annoying. The second time when we flushed the toilet with the remote control, it didn't work. We called the serviceman and he told us the remote control was turned off! We decided the electronic toilet was not our cup of tea and moved to room 1215 the next day. 3) During our stay it was warm and humid and the front desk told me it was the government's order not to supply air-con cool air after a certain date so there was nothing he could do. We sweated every night and could not sleep well. Your breakfast room was also hot. I was in shorts and still sweated as I had my breakfast. 4) I found out the CNN channel was jumping up and down and freezing continuously. It simply could not be watched. Your technician told us a reason I didn't understand that there was nothing he could do.  That was a big disappointment as I chose to stay in Howard Johnson because it is a CNN channel partner hotel. 5) The shower stall door leaked shower water to the bathroom floor because some sealant was missing on the shower stall door hinge. The towels were of poor quality as they did not absorb water on our wet body.  6) The coil of the hairdryer was too short to dry hair in front of a mirror.  7) The sockets in the room were not uniform. As a result I had to test every socket in the room before I could find two sockets that would fit my adapters for iphone and apple watch.  Conclusion: I was terribly disappointed with our stay in this hotel. On November 17, I emailed my above complaint to the hotel's General Manager and received no response.

Excellent location, hotel is clean, new, not noisy and the room and the bed very comfortable. 100% recommend

We had a wonderful stay at H&J in Shanghai. The room was big and always clean, very well suited for a family with kids, the staff always helpful and polite and the restaurant offered a wide and delicious breakfast. The location is very central, in walking distance to many attractions as well as very well connected to the metro system so you can reach the ones that are further away. A special thanks to mister Hunter Zhu who ensured our experience was a very pleasant one.

This has been my go-to Hotel every time I am in Shanghai! Excellent overall!

Clean, and great location in the French concession area. A lot Trendy Food and Beverage establishments around the hotel, safe to walk around during the night too

5 nights, Everything was perfect, will come again. ** Area ** = strategic and most central **Nearby streets** = romantic, trendy, exciting, walkable, many shops, many cafes, many malls. ** Metro ** = 5 mins away, taxi very convenient too ** hotel ** = superb, didn’t try breakfast, there is a super market at the corner outside. ** Housekeeping ** = best kindest and caring for little details ** staff ** = helpful, didn’t interact and didn’t need much from them.

Great stay overall. Rooms have bath tub, which was super comfy to jump inside after long walks in the city. Great breakers as well. Convenient location nearby to subway stations and shopping malls Friendly and helpful stuff at the reception. Special thanks to Hunter Zhu for helping out with some errands

The room smelled like cigarettes even though is was a non smoking room. Also the towels and bed sheets smelled of cigarettes. The breakfast room was not very nice looking and the western style breakfast poor. The view was nice and the room was big. Location is very good.

Excellent concierge team. The front desk and all the colleagues went above and beyond! We arrived on 5th July. Our child felt unwell from the travelling. The hotel staff was very helpful in helping us find a hospital who would offer outpatient appointments without pre-booking. She helped to get us a taxi. They are a credit to their employer. Nice and clean hotel room. Lovely breakfast buffet. Perfect location. A++++

Howard Johnson is one of my favourite hotels in Shanghai, conveniently located next door to IAPM mall and a short walk away from Fumin’ Lu. I will definitely visit again. Vicky and Shirley are always there to provide a welcoming smile.

Vicki at front desk was superb! Excellent location. Rooms are great. Actually took a suite with separate room for a week so I could see clients in private. Booked again with a smaller room when it was just me. Only improvement, please give spoons to make morning coffee and a little bit more in the gym would be excellent. Suggest some rubber bands, yoga mats, 3x kettle bells & fix the rower machine, if you did that, this would be one of the best hotel gyms in Shanghai near this price point.
