Surf Camp Lombok

TL;DR this is a 2 week camp, doing a single week is gonna give you a bad experience: The camp is structured for the 2 week campers. If you book a single week, you simply join their start or end part of camp. This is not very clear. I joined for a single week and started camp midway thought a 2 week session. They gave me not introduction to surfing; sent me in the water with a board too short for my non existing skills at the moment. And to make the whole situation even worst, the day I arrived I was told the next day was a rest day so I start a 1 week surf camp with a full day of doing no surfing (feels like 2 days if you count arrival day). They also did not introduced the new campers to the group which they said on emails they would. You can by now imagine my experience wasn't ideal. All that being said, I am sure I would have loved camp if I did my week aligned with the first week of a 2 week session. I was told they actually got a proper beginner friendly intro. Food was great. The people working around you are amazing. The other campers created a very welcoming vibe. It's just sad they didn't seen to take much consideration for the people arriving on the second week.

Surf Camp Lombok is a humble, attractive, and relaxed gem for surf camps and BnBs. If you look to the instagram-heavy surf camps around Lombok and want something more focussed on nature and surfing, this is the place for you. Morning sit spots on comfortable couches in the Borneo style longhouse are a plenty, just like the immaculate vibes from staff. Sunset walks and surf check spots up the hill make the location priceless. Skate bowl for surf skates, pennies, and the like will have you cruising like Peralta in no time. They have just revamped the kitchen with some hotshot chef from Bali so I can imagine big things coming! Best food in Gerupuk perhaps? You should go find out and review it here.

Firstly, this place is super chill, but really really well organised. The sessions are pro: There are 4 groups split into different levels, going to different spots twice a day, depending on what their focus is and, of course, the conditions and crowd levels. The sunrise sessions especially were unforgettable. There is an instructor per about 2 guests, which is unheard of. And all the instructors, local and international alike, pay so much attention and continually communicate insightful feedback and push you to your new limits whether in the lineup or in the photo reviews. The equipment is top notch too, and no naff matching rash vests. And the food (btw served 3 times a day!) is insanely good, local and fresh. And if you feel peckish you can always grab a snack, a delicious smoothie, or a beer at the bar. In your free time, you can practice your turns on the surf skate or in the skate bowl, join yoga or meditation sessions, paragliding, hiking, etc - or make a suggestion! But most importantly; this crew created something really really special. This will be your little family tucked away in the corner of gerupuk bay. I walked away reenergised, thankful and confident enough to step up in some of the most competitive lineups, and I can’t wait to go back! Thank you Surf Camp Lombok!
