Booked 2 nights for 21 December back in October 2024. Booking confirmed and paid for by us. Received usual Sedgefield Travelodge welcome email the day before. Left London and arrived after visiting family around 7.30pm on 21 December to find hotel shut (being refurbished from what we could see). Phone number on a piece of paper in window by door to reception. Turns out that Travelodge moved our booking to Darlington and had sent an email just after midnight on 21 December welcoming us to Darlington with no explanation or highlighting the change...an email we only read when we found Sedgefield shut. Sedgefield we have now discovered is not opening until February 2025. Appalling comms by Travelodge centrally. We were not the only ones as another couple had exactly the same experience on that same night when arriving at Sedgefield travelodge. They knew Sedgefield was closed, made no attempt to contact in advance, and took our money and moved our poking to a different hotel which was not located in a good place and we would have chosen Hartlepool if Travelodge had given us a choice. Their handling of our complaint was just as poor including quoting their T&C's as to why they could.mive our booking. I am sure there will be many who have suffered the same experience as Travelodge are being cynical by not contacting customers in advance for their booking for the Sedgefield Travelodge.
