We stayed as a couple on a dinner/bed/breakfast midweek offer for £207. I felt this was really reasonable and great value for money. It included the 7 course taster menu. We arrived to Sedbergh around 1400, and parked in the car park behind. Bit of a narrow entranceway. Be mindful if travelling in a large vehicle. The room was ready early and were allowed up. We had room 12 which was on the top floor. Beautiful staircase and stained glass windows with hanging plants. Such beautiful wow vibes upon first glance. The room was spacious with a modern wall in shower bathroom with double sink. The tea tray was a lovely touch. Homemade cookies and freshly ground coffee and a cafetière. Very comfortable bed and luxurious sheets. We decided to have a quick lunch in the bar before we went for a walk. We both had soup and a sandwich which was nice by the roaring log burner on the cold frosty day. The bar area had a lovely atmosphere. Plenty of drink options at the bar. We went for a 5k walk around the village, by the river, a forest, a little lake and the Sedbergh private school. Lots of history in Sedbergh. After the walk we popped in a couple of pubs. The red lion. Nice open fire but quite quiet. Next popped in the Dalesman which was lovely. Bit more atmosphere and enjoyable decor. Very much typical countryside farming, hunting vibes. All 3 pubs very close walking distance to each other. We then went back to the black bull to get changed for dinner. We decide to pay extra £40pp to have the wine pairing which was a little steep for 4 small taster glasses but they all tasted great nonetheless. The theme was “waste not want not” and was very interesting. Included oysters, grey squirrel (tastes like chicken 😂), rabbit, sea urchin and trout roe (bit too strong fishy taste for us), venison, tuna, and sea buckthorn. Was a delightfully fun experience and all cooked to perfection. Even if the fish course were a bit too much for our tastes we gave them a go and appreciated them. The service was great. Informative and enjoyable. Not too formal but formal enough for the standards of the food. We finished our night in the bar with some more wine by the log burner and scrabble/jenga. It was a lovely atmosphere which was actually quite busy for a Wednesday night in November. Went to bed and slept soundly. It was my birthday in the morning and went to down to breakfast. Wa greeted with a happy birthday and an amazing breakfast. We both just opted for the full English. Every ingredient was cooked to perfection and tasted incredible. Homemade fresh sourdough bread, thick bacon, buttery scrambled eggs and hearty black pudding, We left feeling very grateful and really thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Would definitely return. We noticed 2 large pigs at the end of the beer garden which were very vocal and a lovely pizza oven outdoor seating area. We will definitely return and we’d love to try the normal a la cart menu or even a sunder dinner. Really brilliant wholesome stay
