We were at the lovely Wysses Rössli for three nights in late September, and are only now catching up on writing reviews for the last few months. Although much time has elapsed since our stay, we remember the Wysses Rössli very well because the staff were all exceptional. Upon arriving on 24th September, we were greeted most kindly by the young gentleman at reception, but we had a favour to ask of him. We were carrying approximately twelve kilogrammes of alp cheese purchased from various farmers in a remote district of Uri accessible only on foot. We asked the young gentleman holding the fort at the Wysses Rössli whether our room might contain a fridge large enough within which to keep some cheese, which was destined for friends and relations in Bern. He responded that he would bring us a fridge specially for our cheese, but he was not yet aware quite how much cheese was concealed within our luggage! He arrived at our room with the fridge in his arms, but we opened our bags to reveal that the fridge was too small for our haul. He told us that the solution would be to keep our cheese in a fridge in the hotel kitchen for the duration of our three-night stay. We felt relieved and thankful, but expressed concern that such a large stash of cheese would inconvenience the kitchen staff. The gentleman responded, "The fridges in our kitchen are actually enormous! It will be easy to find space." So he carried away our cheese in two bags, all twelve kilos of it. How wonderfully helpful! All of the staff we encountered at the Wysses Rössli were magnificent, but we felt sad that when we collected our cheese and checked out, it was the young gentleman's morning off, so we were unable to thank him once again for the marvellous check-in experience. The Wysses Rössli is a seventeenth-century hotel with a fascinating history and situated in the heart of the old town. From our room we enjoyed lovely views over pretty rooftops and to the foothills and mountains beyond. After our first breakfast, we returned to our room to hear the lowing and bells of cattle being brought into town. We enquired of our friend the young gentleman at reception, and he advised us to head to the Feldli on Rickenbachstrasse to observe the cattle show. We thus followed the farmers and cattle to the Feldli, where we found perhaps as many as two hundred cows, heffers and bulls competing for the prizes. Continuing along the Rickenbachstrasse, we reached the cable car up to the foot of the mighty Mythen mountain, a natural wonder of Kanton Schwyz. We loved Stadt Schwyz and its environs, and when we return, we will be sure to book the Wysses Rössli again.
