This is a bed and breakfast establishment, situated in the hills above Albufeira, just south of Sao Bartolomeu de Messines. It is ideally located to explore the Algarve, with access to the IC1 and the A12/A22, as well as some other major roads (N270, N124, N125) only minutes away. The owners speak Flemish/Dutch and English as native languages, but between them they can converse in a number of others. They have contacts around the area with tour operators and can arrange some activities on your behalf, and they booked us on the boat trip we took with Algarexperience. The hotel has four rooms for 1 – 3 people, plus a couple more for larger groups or families. All are ensuite and arranged around a courtyard pool. There is a BBQ for guest use, and the breakfast room has a kitchen which guests are welcome to use should you want to stay on site instead of eating out at one of the many local restaurants. We were given a list of around 20 local places on arrival to get us started, and we found many others along the coast. Locally, vegetarians are not well catered for, but there are a number of places in the more tourist oriented spots like Albufeira, Lagos, Guila and Vilamoura which do. That said, we have been able to get a meal at any of the places we have been to. There is TV and free WiFi in the rooms, and air conditioning. Breakfast is large and varied, with typical continental offerings of fresh home-baked bread, cheese, cold meat, fruits, boiled or fried eggs on request, juice, copious amounts of coffee and should you want it, yoghurt, cereals and toast. Parking is under a shade so the cars are not too hot to start the day, and they will loan you beach towels and parasols if you need them. You do need a car if you stay here, as it is quite out of the way, but that makes it quiet and understated. It has been a highly pleasant stay for us, using it as a base to explore the mountain areas and the coast alike. Again, the owners provided us with a list of locations worth visiting, arranged in convenient day long packages. While we had already sorted out our itinerary, these did come in handy to rearrange things into more coherent day trips. They would be invaluable if you turned up unprepared.
