Hotel Mercury by Alegria

On first impressions on arrival looks 4*,that's where it ends,reception staff not interested unless your Spanish,rooms are very dated poorly decorated, food is absolutely awful,tried it once,then went out for the rest of the holiday although we had paid for breakfast and evening meal,get up at 7 if you want a spot at the pool,and 75% of the sunloungers were damaged or broken.its a cheap but not cheerful place.avoid.

On arrival we were greeted with a rather unfriendly receptionist. When we reached our room, it was clear that it was very basic. The pillows were very uncomfortable. Our balcony had cracked tiles, on the floor. We had no coffee/tea making facilities. The tv had four channels, none in English. The air con worked well, which we were grateful for. It did make the room very cold, so you had to remove the card from the wall so you could turn it off! You were only given a thin oversheet. The bathroom appeared clean. The shower leaked so much that you had to put a bath towel in between that and the toilet which still didn’t stop the flood! The food was not great, especially breakfast. Lunch and dinner were much better. The coffee machines were bad and that was if they worked! If you want a good coffee you have to wait for the bar upstairs to open at 10 30. One morning, when we waited for this to open, we ordered our drinks but when we went to pay, the card machine wasn’t working. I paid the staff cash but then she found no change in the till and had to go out the back to find some! After all this, she forgot to put my milk in and I had to go back….. We were all inclusive and at no point did they have more than one staff member serving, making the queues long. We noticed they reused the plastic cups. This was worrying, considering that most of the plates in the restaurant were still dirty and you had to sort through to get a clean one. The reception area looked well presented. I never saw the information desk staffed. The hotel itself is in a great location and a few minutes from the beach, it’s saving grace. Our keycard was going wrong, constantly. I wouldn’t recommend going out of the grounds after dark.

I read the reviews before I went and I was quite concerned!! All I can say is one persons experience is never the same as another’s and I think it depends on the individuals pallet personally. My husband and some of the kids are fussy eaters and lived off pasta pizza and chips! Me and my eldest had steaks grilled meats chicken pork and ribs plus fish mussels all freshly cooked at the fresh cooking station each night and was brilliant. The drinks were €3.50 a pint of san Miguel. Water €2.70 for a big bottle and coke and orange juice €2.50. We were only half board as that’s was the best option for us. Me and the girls had a balcony room and hubby had a fridge in his and the boys room so that was an added bonus. Air conditioning was good and free with thermostat in the room and easy to use. Staff were very friendly so not sure why previous reviews say they were rude maybe you expect them to speak English in their own country!! I am English and use google translate because I’m in someone else’s country and it’s the polite thing to do, to try and speak their language. I find a lot of these negative reviews are from typical ignorant English people wanting English food and English speaking staff!! Santa Susanna is not like Benidorm it’s very Spanish orientated town and lovely. The shop outside of the hotel is a little expensive so I would use maps and do the 10 minute walk to Lidl it’s well worth it for fresh fruit biscuits and snacks for the kids. The beach is just under the subway (train line) across the road or if you walk further up to your left and go to the other end of the beach across from Tahita hotel there are shops and cafes on the beach. We went to the water park in Blanes and it was amazing and well worth it. The hotel is in a perfect location for bus routes train line to Barcelona there is a tourist office outside and an excursion centre. The evening entertainment is a bit repetitive but the Algeria hotel next door which is the same chain has proper shows and you can go into their hotel in the evening too. Overall we had a lovely family holiday. Friendly staff very clean hotel good variety of food

Currently here on a 5 night stay I didn't read any reviews but my partner did. Our experience so far is relatively positive. The all inclusive restrictions is somewhat of a pain and a little bit of a p*sstake.. you can't get a bottle of water before 11am or after 11pm so advised to take some back to the room - I find this a little odd, there is a vending machine in the reception, I'm use to having little fridges dotted around with water in but not here.... you can however also buy from the bar before 11am ( €7.60 for 2 pints of beer)... food... well it's cold but they have microwaves. It's edible thats main thing .... pool is nice, seen people say it's rarely cleaned however had some pool guys out here cleaning and topping it up at 8am. Plenty of beds gets busy in afternoon. It doesn't deserve the negative comments it gets but if your respectful and nice to them your looked after. Manager moved our room after our aircon wasn't working. Seems to be a common thing as you see most have their patio doors open at night. The air con isn't cold but it's comfortable enough to sleep in. Our first room was disgustingly hot so I can understand most of the feedback on here. But we asked and got moved in 5 mins. Took us to see the room first to make sure we was happy. Does need an uplift and especially the pool area floor... however the bloke said that took us to the room that they were closing over the winter for a refurb?? If this true then it would be great. Pool activities in the day and an expected great atmosphere. Lots of people, water polo, water aerobics etc. Night time disco is a bit drab but go out have a walk and you find some lovely bars. A nice area. At the end of the day you get what you pay for I would say at most currently a 3 star not a 4 but some minor changes and a few upgrades here and there would earn its 4 star. Staff are helpful, polite what more could you ask for.

Staff are so rude. We have not had any hot water for 4 days. Went down twice last night and was lied too again and again. Not fixed. Im suffering with prickly heat and cant even have a proper shower. The pool is open and free to the public. Local man came in yesterday and sat learing at the girls In swimsuits. Then spat in someone's drink on the way out. Tonight at dinner. A staff member was changing the trays of food, he dropped the tongs onto the floor. I picked it up for him and he put it straight back into the food. I told him, he couldn't do that as it had been on the floor. He gave me the dirtiest look ever as he walked away. I ordered chips from the bar only for the barman to tell me I eat to much and need to drink more. This is by far the most appalling hotel I have ever been too. Don't come here. You will regret it!!

Just returned from a 4 night all inclusive break. Reception staff were very friendly and welcoming. Checked in within 10 minutes of arrival. Room was very clean on arrival and was cleaned daily with fresh towels. Pool area was great with entertainment at various times of the day. Bar staff were very friendly and accommodating. The restaurant was very clean and plenty of choice for meals. The only thing I could fault is the food could have been hotter, however there were microwaves available if needed. We didnt go to any of the evening entertainment, so i cant make comment. Overall we had a great time at mercury and will return in the future.

Not really sure about previous reviews, but my time at this hotel went very well. Room, small with all necessary equipment, toilet wasn’t dirty or anything, all cleaned and fresh, it’s 4 stars hotel but not luxury so don’t expect gold on the walls. No label on food but you could ask staff who worked there very hard because of number of people and for me seems like everyone definitely enjoyed when I could see amount of food on the plates so don’t understand the problem… some of things been repeating but be realistic… with this number of different dishes it’s not really possible to have every day something what wasn’t the other day. In our opinion food was good and looked fresh. If was busy at the bar, we could spot another member of staff to come and help most of the time. Swimming pool wasn’t the biggest one but not at least once we’ve been struggle to find space to lay down and enjoy. Not too much for kids but i wasn’t with any so didn’t paid attention, yet long queue to the bar and seemed like people perfectly enjoyed. Close to the shops and bars, beach maximum 10 minutes with nice, slow walk, staff nice and polite when you are, don’t expect kisses when you trying “stepping on people”. If you going to relax and have nice time, it’s a good place, but if you going to expect red carpet, well, go work a bit more to pay a bit more.

From the exterior, the hotel was beautiful and we were excited to get inside! 4 star hotel so we were expecting it to be lovely. However, the food was awful. No labels at all on anything so had to guess what everything was, plus this is extremely dangerous for allergies. The same food was served every meal time making it boring and repetitive. Most of the staff at the bar were unfriendly and rude every time we ordered drinks. The WiFi didn't work in our hotel room so our children were unable to stream netflix on their devices at night. The air conditioning worked one night and didn't work for the rest of the stay and the shower rarely had any hot water, meaning ice cold showers were had daily. The reception team do not appear to be overly helpful or interested in any problems mentioned. The queues to get a drink or food were extremely long and the whole process was just messy. We went all inclusive and were very disappointed with the service we recieved. I would not recommend this hotel to any family! And if you have any allergies or intolerance or even dietary requirements, don't stay here because you don't know what you are eating! This hotel should NOT be 4 stars.

We had a fantastic holiday staying in this hotel. Good service for the service you pay.Only air cnditioning and WiFi in the room was not good. Very hard working and friendly restaurant staff with lot of choice of food. The housekeeping staffs were also hard working.. Looking forward again.. Suggesting to improve the cleanliness of swimming pool..
