My wife was in San Lucas Toliman when the devastating 1976 Guatemala earthquake hit. Our visit was her return after almost 50 years and also to celebrate her 75th birthday. Our 4 days at Hotel Toliman made these occasions full of happiness for us. The hospitality, beautiful grounds, food and accommodations were perfect. We had a small issue the first night that was graciously taken care of by Chati, the owner. We’ve stayed in a lot of wonderful places throughout the world and Hotel Toliman stands out as one our most special.

Hotel Toliman is set in their own beautiful gardens with a view of Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. The rooms are comfortable and quiet. The hotel’s restaurant is very good. The produce for the restaurant is grown in the hotel’s own organic garden. Service is great.

The rooms are clean and in Guatemalan decor. The pool is beautiful with a view of Lake Atitlan. Food in the restaurant is wonderful and authentic. It's easy to walk around town from there and walk the trail by the lake. Best of all the staff is incredibly kind and friendly.

Fantastic hotel with excellent hospitality, welcoming people and delicious food. We visit once a year for a medical trip and are treated like family. The resort is an oasis and it truly feels like a home away from home. I can't wait to return.

I have been to many different hotels around the lake (in Pana, Santa Cruz, San Marcos, San Juan, San Pedro, etc.), and Hotel Tolimán is hands-down my favorite. The staff is wonderful, the restaurant food is delicious, the views are unbeatable, and San Lucas is just a much more chill local town than most of the other lake towns. They have kayaks to paddle on the lake, and they can help you hike the volcanoes behind town. I can't recommend this place enough.

Hotel Toliman is my "Home Away from Home" in Guatemala, and the best place I have found around Lake Atitlan, where I can rest and regenerate like the flowers in their beautiful gardens. Many groups to volunteer with, too, and mosaic workshops during the year that beautify the entire time. Lots to do there!

Hotel Tolimán is by far the nicest place to stay in San Lucas Tolimán. I have come back for many years now and it truly is a 'home away from home'. The grounds are beartutiful, the view from the restaurant deck incredible, rooms are spacious and comfortable. Truly it is like being in PARADISE.

Stayed 4 nights with my family (2 adults, 2 kids). The hotel grounds are gorgeous and superbly maintained. The view is phenomenal (photos don't do it justice). The hotel staff is extremely attentive and very accommodating. The food is fine but I don't think anyone goes to Guatemala for a culinary experience. Really this is a mini resort that's perfect for a family - restaurant open from 7am-9pm, pool, hammock and swing. The hotel has good relationships with a few boats in town and offer great excursions to other lake towns at prices lower than the going rate. If you're looking for a place that isn't Panajachel / hippie and touristy, this is a hotel and town for you! Only suggestion: En-suite bathrooms could use for counter space.

Beautiful hotel, grounds and very kind + helpful staff. Included breakfast was very good! The dinner menu lacks meatless and/or gluten free options, but the food they do have is very good. We took out the hotels kayaks which was a lot of fun and spent some time at the pool. Additionally, while the hotel grounds were beautiful, the rooms could have been nicer. We have some notes about the location, however. We did not realize this but San Lucas Toliman is a very gentrified village on Lake Atitlan. The hotel and grounds are so beautiful but it is immediately adjacent to some deeply impoverished neighborhoods. The stark contrast was eye opening, not in a necessarily bad way. There are very few food options except for the hotel. We ate at “El Bodegon” which is just around the corner of the same block. Additionally, if you want to “village hop” you have to take a “lancha”(water taxi, public) all the way back to Panajachel and then take a different lancha to visit the rest of the lake (I.e., Santa Cruz La Laguna, San Marcos, San Pedro). It took us over 1.5 hours to get from Taliman to San Pedro. If you are looking to stay in one place, lay by the pool, and explore the beautiful gardens, this tucked-away gem is for you.
