The hotel is a lot smaller than the pictures. The room is also small but has great shower and comfortable beds. There is no free parking, the reception will provide a voucher and you need to pay $7 to park next door. The hotel location is awesome, you can walk to most of the attractions. Breakfast buffet is great.

Pleasant hotel, good room, centrally located but lots of traffic noise. I agree with some other reviewers that the pictures on the website and here on this site make the hotel appear far more refined and maintained than it actually is. In the dining area in the pool courtyard I charged my mobile phone in a wall socket which simply fell out of its casing exposing wires. Parts of the pool don't look functional at all and we never saw anyone use it. Our room was large and pleasant but faced the main road and there was too much traffic noise even very early. If we'd stayed longer than 2 nights I would have asked for another quieter room. Breakfast was ok and this hotel is centrally located and acceptable for a short stay.

The hotel was centrally located and the restaurant was very convenient to have on site. The room was basic, but it was clean and was a good temperature. The best part of the stay was the staff! Mauricio was very knowledgeable about the area and helpful when it came to our millions of questions about Costa Rica. I would definitely stay there again.

After the blow and hammer of a tough day, a warmhearted, thoughtful concierge greeted me and made me feel right at home. My cozy, quiet, very comfortable and elegant room felt safe and conducive to rest. Sleep-deprived, I slept, for the first time in a long time, the night through. Kind and cordial servers offered the free breakfast with a variety of American and Spanish choices. Each server thrived on sending happiness and laughter to us when apt, even offering, when conversation invited, fun, day-travel suggestions. They created the atmosphere that invited conversation between travelers and truly made my day fresh and inspiring. Even my work became a breeze. I will never forget these people and the happy feeling in my heart.

Nice wee hotel in a really central position. Stayed our last night in Costa Rica here. The room whilst basic and small was comfortable and has a nice view over the pool. The cafe was great and prices were very reasonable. They kindly left tea, coffee, cereal and bread out for us for our 4am start

The photographer for the website should have an award for presenting the hotel in such a good light, appearing much more spacious and beautiful than it really is. The historic atmosphere, kind staff, and good food along with central location are the pluses. Many reviews mention street noise because it is intense. We originally booked a suite (the largest room, and one of those with A/C), but after one night we asked to change to a courtyard room to get away from street noise. (The A/C could not disguise it). We were able to change--none available with A/C--but there was no refund for the much less expensive room. If I were to rate this hotel, I would say 2.5 stars at best. I would certainly recommend it, but know what you're getting into. Rooms are very clean, wifi is good, safety is good. Many guests came to enjoy the pool, but there were only 4 chairs, and only 2 that weren't broken (see photo) The hotel provided a driver to meet us at the airport, which worked out well.

This high-value hotel is tucked back from the street in central San Jose within easy walking distance of the central art market and a wide variety of restaurants. They also offer a shuttle service to the airport, which was very appreciated since we had to make a 6am flight. We had a very small room compared to others in our party for the same price (avoid Room 35, if possible). There was also quite a lot of street noise from our room. Other rooms are located farther away from the street and may not have that issue. But overall, at about $75/night, it's a great option, especially since it includes breakfast. Despite the minor issues, it was much better than staying at the airport, since we were able to walk around San Jose, go to the art market and have one more Costa Rican meal at a nearby restaurant before leaving.

My husband and I stayed in this hotel while in San Jose. The bed was comfortable. The room was clean. The bathroom only had one light. The shower water stayed hot. They have a restaurant with lunch, dinner and cafe items available. They are within minutes walk from the National Museum, Metropolitan Cathedral, and other population tourist attractions in San Jose. As they are located in downtown San Jose, they do have a lot of noise from the streets which can make it hard to have a comfortable sleep. They have breakfast, but we were unable to use as we had other plans. Airport rides are available 24 hours a day for $30 USD.

We stayed at this hotel at the beginning and end of the trip. The location is great for getting to know the center of San José, the hotel is very pleasant with spacious, clean and comfortable rooms. Breakfast is simple but quite good. Unfortunately we started to hear the noise of traffic quite early.
