When I arrived at reception at 9:30pm I was informed that my room was not available because they had a large group (I was part of the large group and had booked my room three months prior as part of the conference sign up). The person at reception told me I would need to take a 'parlor' room. When I asked what that was, it was basically an unused living room of a suite with a pullout sofa bed. They assured me that it would be fine, and was only for one night. When I disagreed and asked for the room I had booked, they said it wasn't available. When I asked to speak to the manager, they said they weren't available. When I asked to speak to anyone in the Hyatt Regency organization, they said there was noone available. I asked them to clarify that they were saying that in the entire Hyatt Regency organization, worldwide, there was no one who was available. They said yes, that was the case. It seems they only person who was available was security, who they kept threatening to call if I didn't take the 'parlor room'. I told them that if the security person was the only person willing to help, I would be happy to talk to them - that I had been polite and courteous, and just wanted the room I had booked. After about fifteen minutes of this back and forth, the person on reception went to a back room - clearly there was a manager back there - and came out after a couple of minutes. Without saying anything he checked me in to a room - the room I had booked - and handed me a key. I attempted to contact the customer service person when I received a text soon after asking me how my stay was going. I was told that there was no one available. I have been staying at Hyatt Regency hotels all over the world. I have always found their staff to be helpful and considerate, willing to go out of their way to make my stay enjoyable. This experience has made me seriously consider staying somewhere else on my next trip and avoiding Hyatt from now on.
