St Moritz Hotel and Cowshed Spa

There’s a reason I’ve not given it full marks even though I had a great stay. The service is outstanding; they called me in advance to confirm special requests, then called me around 1pm on the day of arrival to say my room was ready and could check in before the usual 4pm checkin (which admittedly for a hotel, especially a pricey one) is quite late. I was escorted to the room which was a nice touch. I’d booked a cosy double and I would describe it as much more spacious than cosy. The decor was modern and fresh, bed comfortable, lighting good and a nice shower room with great towels, dressing gown and flip flops. The cleanliness was impeccable, not a single hair or spec of dust. There was a nice tea tray, two of each still and sparkling water, and real milk. The mini bar items were very expensive though at £3 for mini cans of soft drinks and £7.50 for wine. Drink at the bar instead, it’s much better value. I used the pool and thermal suite facilities. I’d seen they’d undergone a recent refit; everything was clean and tidy, nice changing rooms. The spa thermal area was ok, it was right by the pool so not very relaxing. The pool lacked any sort of jacuzzi or hydropool features inside. If you’re looking to go to Cornwall for a spa break session, I think there’s better than the St Moritz. The bar and restaurant are located upstairs. The whole resort is a weird layout. The public areas are at the back and have no views, whilst there’s an adjoining housing estate that seems to be in the hotel grounds. I had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant, which is smaller than I expected but the service was again outstanding. Good selection and reasonably priced, the wines were reasonable too, I had both the Cornish whites which were delicious. I had breakfast in there too. A nice buffet of continental items and hot food cooked to order. Again fantastic service from the staff there. There is an outdoor pool which was open and heated and and a cafe open in the afternoon. The hotel will also take you to the beach for free in their minibus and there were some other nice touches like wellies and rockpooling kit to borrow. So why didn’t I give it full marks? For a hotel at this price point - £155 inc breakfast, comparable with say Watergate Bay Hotel at £156 for the same night, this place needs a lot of care given to it. Paint peeling, paint discoloured on the building, weeds growing through the pacing blocks, bin hanging off, a street cone over something and wrapped in duct tape, plus the guest car park is just gravel. It’s all not quite fitting for the price point. I’d also find that for about the same price you could be at other destination hotels on this coast like Watergate Bay and Bedruthan Steps where you’d have a view of the sea from the bar and or restaurant. In all I could go back, for the service more than anything else and I didn’t go away thinking it was poor value, just that it’s not quite up to the standard of some of its competitors at the sa

We’ve just spent an outstanding week in one of St Moritz’s self-catering apartments (apartment 106) - a wonderful base from which to enjoy the sea views and to explore the beautiful Cornish coastline. The apartment was extremely comfortable - furnished to a high standard, well maintained and equipped, and the beds were seriously comfortable. The newly refurbished spa and gym were impressive and a great addition. We ate in the hotel’s Shorecrest restaurant twice (tip: worth booking in advance, we almost didn’t get a table on the Thursday night despite it only being early April) and had excellent meals both times as well as being well looked after by the staff. All round a great experience - we will definitely be back.

St Moritz has it all ! We have being visiting for several years and love it . The staff are always friendly , the Villa accommodation we stay in always presented to an excellent standard . The facilities including the Gym and Swimming Baths are fantastic , always finished off by a visit to the upstairs Bar , just to cool down obviously . We love St Moritz and will be back in 2026.

The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately no communication between reception, restaurant and Cowshed which spoiled our experience. Afternoon tea was okay. Too many scones not enough sandwiches or variety - overall underwhelming. Outdoor pool and cafe service was excellent. Beautiful location.

Have stayed in the area many times, but had not had the pleasure of staying at St Moritz. A truly fantastic place and any words would fail in promoting how excellent an hotel it is. Staff helpful and friendly, room and shower perfect, breakfast and restaurant could not be faulted, plus fantastic location. My wife used the spa facilities so a win win all round. Am looking forward to staying there again in the not too distant future.

This is our second visit, we came last year on our way back home from a longer stay elsewhere in Cornwall and thought we would do the same again. We loved the facilities and vibe last year. Facilities great , vibe on site is different. Ignored in the pool side cafe, felt like an inconvenience. The restaurant has a basic menu. I ordered the gnocchi which was £22 and had had 7 pieces of gnocchi, this was advertised as a large plate. The people next to us were offered a different level of service. The rooms are lovely but complimentary biscuits half eaten, no mini bar menu list you could assume complimentary. At £185 doesn’t feel great value , really not worth the money. Will not be returning.
