Camping Campix

The owner, who speaks exceptional English, was most helpful when I called. On arrival, he was most charming with an excellent sense of humour. The road trip to the site is not the easiest. The ablution block is good. We had a meal at the cafe which was plentiful, freshly prepared and tasty. Good experience all around.

The owner was at the desk on our arrival and seemed very friendly (with good English language skills). This was in line with reviews we had read. However, when we had a basic query regarding site rules/conditions the attitude was markedly different (evasive, unhelpful and TBH a little bit aggressive). I was a bit taken aback by the apparent change in personality. The most surprising thing was that there seemed to be no rules for 'being quiet after a certain time'. This was most marked when a large teenage group were allowed to play loud music (which could be heard throughout the site) well into the early hours.

Immediate bad vibes about the town as we drove through and even more so when we arrived on site. Town seemed quite derelict and rundown, houses looked dishevelled. We were completely ignored at the desk by the owner(?) who was too busy talking to his friend but they kept looking at me and then continuing to talk - it was rather awkward. My heart sank when I saw the gitotel (number 1) - it looked so rundown. Only security was a padlock on the outside for when you went out and a tiny latch inside when you were in so felt really unsafe. The smell of dump hit us like a wall when we walked in. There were mouldy curtains in the bedrooms (see pic), huge cobwebs/cellar spiders in every single room that I had my husband remove with a broom before I could sleep, full fly strips in the children’s room and in the kitchen - it was just awful. I said to my husband that I wanted to leave but we had just paid what I realise now is a frankly extortionate amount for what the accommodation is (€240 for 2 nights). You can hear every single noise inside because the rooms are tiny and the walls cardboard thin. The gitotels are away from main site so you have to walk on the road to access amenities but the pitches around us still so noisy - it got to midnight and there was loud music playing and children still running around shouting and screaming outside while my own were trying to sleep. The bunks and double bed absolutely tiny, old/dated/smelly bedding which didn’t fit any of the mattresses (just pieces of foam!) and felt almost wet because of the damp. Went to Lidl to try and buy our own bedding (thank goodness brought our own pillows anyway) but it was just as bad in there - low stock levels, mucky shelves and stuff just flung everywhere. In the kitchen there were limited utensils, and no plug in the sink. Was thankful for the clean fridge and working coffee machine however. The site itself is really unkempt - everything a little dated and in need of refurbishment - certainly past its prime. Stray cats wandering around and smell of dog poo was hard to avoid although didn’t see any dogs. The pool area great for the kids but was absolutely freezing cold - kid’s lips were blue. In the town there was some lovely quintessential architecture but quite a rundown location in general. One side of town seemed to be a derelict industrial estate. We saw some some sketchy hitchhiking going on and a family having a screaming match on side of road. We have camped all across France for years and so are used to camping in its truest sense and have never experienced a campsite that we wouldn’t return to, until now unfortunately. My god, was I glad to get out of there - don’t think I’ve ever packed up so quickly. We were just there for a quick stopover on our way further south - had it had been any longer, we would have absolutely sought accommodation elsewhere without a shadow of a doubt. Campix is lovely - the site is divided up in such a way that you almost have a private space. Areas are large - it’s a walk to the loos from some of the site - but this means you don’t get disturbed - but you could choose a space nearer. Camp fires are fun and wood is left around to burn. The Monsieur in charge is helpful and knowledgeable of the area and things to do. Pool is so cold and refreshing - and clean! Children’s playground is good and the slide is superb! The whole site is very family friendly. Plenty of hot water at the amenities block and bar / restaurant / mini shop has all the basics and good food.

Magnifique camping dans un petit écrin de ́nature. Quel bonheur d entendre au réveil les oiseaux. Lieu adpté aux jeunes enfants : grand tobboggan, petit train en bois, babyfoot en libre accès à l extérieur. Douche bien chaude très agréable au réveil. Le gérant du camping est très sympathique, il donne un plan pour s orienter dans les différentez zones de verdure. A proximité, à visiter : château de Chantilly, parc Mer de Sable, parc Astérix. Le village de Saint Leu d Esserent a de nombreux commerces : boulangerie, kebab, supermarché dont un Lidl juste en bas en cqmping à 5 min de marche. Zone commerciale de Saint Maximin à proximité. Je reviendrai pour me ressourcer et me déconnecter de ce monde numérique au contact de la Team PS60. 😊

Très décevant, nous avons subi nous et les autres campeurs ( zone gitehotel et cabane randonneur) une fête de famille pendant le pont de l'Ascension regroupant 3 bungalows avec musique extérieure à fond une bonne partie de la nuit, tapage nocturne gratuit sans aucune action de la part du camping ! De plus, gitehotel très vieillissant, ménage sommaire, nous ne reviendrons pas c'est certain !
