Refuge du Fioux

I had somewhat low expectations going to this Refugio based on some of the negative comments, but I am glad I went. This was our first night on the TMB and what a nice surprise. The view was outstanding and my husband and I thought the service was great. Catherine, the French woman in charge of the Refugio was quite friendly (exact opposite of what other reviews stated). Her English is not that great, but she always had a smile on her face and tried to get her point across. She manages a lot with all the hikers arriving around the same time (instructions on the sleeping arrangements, house rules , showers, and dinner). Given this is one of the first refugio’s staying on the TMB if going counter-clockwise I can see how some hikers may expect more if this is their first time at a refugio. These are not hotels they are mountain huts and they sometimes have quirks like the lack of hot water, creaky boards, mediocre food, etc. However, if you embrace the fact you are in a beautiful place in the mountains (only reached by hiking) than you can relish that this is special place and not focus on the little things. My husband and I also hiked the Dolomites and completed the TMB and in terms of view, cleanliness, food, and service this Refugio was high on our list.

English speaker! After visiting a ton of refuges that barely serve any food after a long hike, this place is a breath of fresh air. Great, low prices, especially compared to other refuges, and big portions of filling, nourishing food—larger than even some full-blown restaurants! This place is perfect to relax and have lunch on a beautiful day.

no wifi, showers, laundry, lockers or credit cards (all as advertised) but one rude french woman second to last day of the TMB hike, no cash left paid the reservation 100% in advance, but she needed her "tourist tax" she asked at dinner for payment so i gave her my credit card. Immediately yelled at me in french in front of the whole table & told them "he has no money" Thankfully strangers helped me out to get the 2 euros fee... later blocked my exit of the room yelling at me in french. woke up the next day and my hiking poles and crampons were gone, i believe she took them or they were stolen, wish i would have stayed 5 mins up the road at the hotel.

OTTIMA ESPERIENZA! Rifugio in una location splendida, gestori molto accoglienti e dislonibili, cena e colazione molto buoni (cena: antipasto costituito da un'insalata, uovo sodo con salsa, pomodoro e piatto unico con coscia di pollo, riso e peperoni stufati e per finire mousse al cioccolato; colazione: bevanda a scelta, pane con burro e marmellata a volontà, joghurt e succo di mela), camere e bagni puliti e molto carini come arredamento. Per quanto riguarda il bagno, ogni ospite ha a disposizione 1 gettone per la doccia per cui l'erogazione dell'acqua dura 3 minuti: sufficienti a farsi una doccia (io personalmente non ho lavato i capelli e il tempo è stato più che sufficiente). Nel complesso, ottima esperienza! Penso che ci farò nuovamente tappa al di fuori del TMB!

Propriétaire un peu sèche au premier abord et qui fixe les règles dés notre arrivée (on laisse ses chaussures à l’entrée ainsi que nos sacs à dos). Au final, on en garde un bon souvenir de part l’emplacement, la qualité des repas (fait maison) et de la quantité. Les douches sont limitées à 3 minutes (il faudrait investir dans un système de coupure d’eau lorsque l’on prend sa douche : le temps de se savonner). Sinon bien

Nous sommes arrivés à 13h30 pour manger. Mais la propriétaire a refusé de nous servir sous prétexte qu’elle devait commencer le service du soir… Nous comprenons mais après 3h de marche nous proposons une simple planche de fromage ou un dessert. Mais c’est encore une fois un refus catégorique. Nous nous apercevons finalement que celle-ci s’est attablé avec des amis et préfère raconter les ragots du pays plutôt que de servir ses clients.. Il serait bon d’être un minimum commerçant, et d’avoir le sens de l’accueil quand on tient un refuge.
