Rorkes Drift Lodge

The only thing we didn't like was how short our stay was. Everything was lovely, the staff was amazing. We hope to be back soon.

Liked · The setting was peaceful and beautiful and the staff friendly and helpful. The rooms were large and comfortable, and the pool was fantastic. My wife went horseback riding while I took the battlefield tour with Thulani--both were excellent. Since we had a sedan, we parked at the Rorke's Drift Museum parking lot for the 2 nights we were there. The lot is safe and secure. The lodge provided a driver to take us up their 5 km jeep track to the lodge. The breakfast and suppers were excellent. Disliked · The roads to Rorke's Drift are all gravel roads and are doable with a sedan, but better with a 4 x 4. For us, it was about 50 km on gravel from Ulundi and then about 30 km out to Dundee. It's obviously much slower than a tar road so leave enough time.

This place is very remote and the road leading to it is 5k long and not suitable unless you have a 4X4 vehicle. This was not highlighted in our booking! If you want nice rooms and a quiet location then this lodge will not disappoint. The swimming pool is out of action which was very disappointing.

Firstly, it is important to be aware that this a difficult location to reach. The track to the lodge is only accessible in a decent 4x4 - and then very slowly and carefully!! However, when you make it the location is stunning. It is essentially a farm but with guest lodges. However the service we got from the staff was very friendly and helpful. And the food was fantastic. The rooms were a little tired and in need of some TLC. And the staff would probably benefit from a more experienced hospitality manager to help them develop this accommodation. But if you like quirky and off the beaten track this is for you.

I absolutely loved my stay in Rorkes Drift Lodge. I was travelling on my own but was made to feel part of the family. Meals and views, room and ambience were beyond my expectations. Thanks to Mbali and Gaba for their hospitality

It could be a great lodge to stay in - sadly there is no management. There is a great cook, who seems to do everything and she is seconded by a sweet non speaking english and non trained waitress. That is it. There is no reception, no owner to welcome you.
