The Castle House Luxury Bed & Breakfast

We loved the quirky, old-fashioned charm of the hotel, its brilliant location just off the market square and the service was excellent: nothing was too much trouble. Excellent. I would definitely stay here again.

A charming stay at Castle House. The staff were wonderful, very friendly and helpful. The rooms and bathroom were spotlessly clean, and comfy beds. Breakfast was delicious, we would recommend and stay again!

Charming and welcoming b&b just off the market square. My room was large and a bit posh wi th a four poster bed and footed tub. Pressed sheets were a pleasant surpise as well on a comfortable bed. The breakfast room is homey with white linen tablecloths and mismatched old china. Andrea who welcomed me on arrival and is in charge of breakfast was friendly and knowledgable. A great stop.

To be honest, I have no idea why this place is rated so highly. Before attending, we read the multiple excellent reviews which in reality made the decision of where to stay for us. Yes, the welcome drink is a nice touch and the location just off the square is perfect for exploring Richmond. The free parking is a pain as every two hours you have to move your car and reset the disc given to you to avoid fines. It takes away the relaxing aspect. We booked two nights at £362. Expensive for a B & B but you get what you pay for, right???? The room itself was a mish mash of antiques. The wallpaper was in dire need of being replaced, the bathroom was similar to one from my childhood. Bath, no shower. The words 'luxury and boutique' are not what I would use. The room wasn't tired, it was completely exhausted. I was quite surprised by being asked to submit our breakfast requirements the night before and even more surprised when served in the morning. Hash browns were very hard, as were the two very small pieces of black pudding (sitting under a heat lamp?). My fried egg had an oil spill similar to the Exxon Valdez. On the second day I chose to have scrambled eggs on toast which I have to say were lovely. At £181 per night it was not value for money. The Premier Inn in Catterick may well have been a better choice. Seriously, don't advertise your property as something that it clearly isn't, or were we placed in a room that hasn't had the 'luxury/boutique' makeover yet.

We booked Castle House as it was very handy for the centre of Richmond. Upon arrival, we received a very warm welcome and were offered a complimentary drink, before being shown to our room. The room, although quirky, was very clean and tidy. Although the building is dated, this only added, to the charm & character, which grows on you. The bed was very comfortable & we didn't have any noise from people passing by our room, so we had a good night's sleep. The staff were very friendly & helpful throughout our stay. You have a wide selection of breakfast, which includes fresh fruit, cereals, porridge, fruit juice, full English breakfast, toast, jams etc, tea & coffee. You can choose anything from the menu, which you fill in the night before (including your choice of time to eat). This allows the staff time to prepare & cook your breakfast fresh for you, so the food is served hot, not kept warm for ages. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay & we would definitely return to Castle House, the next time we're in Richmond.

Host kept in contact regularly before arrival. Complimentary alcoholic drink on arrival. Free parking. Lovely breakfast room with traditional feel and crockery. Very quirky, but we like quirky house crooked and in places in rooms not straight, full of character. Bed really comfy had a great nights sleep and rooms not stuffy like modern hotels.
