The Rajbari Bawali

Only planned on staying four nights but then extended and then did so again so ended up staying eleven. That says it all really. Grateful thanks to all the staff who take full individual responsibility for keeping the place absolutely immaculate and for genuinely caring about their guests. Particularly to ‘wingman’ Arpan (Mr Bond) who was a total professional (even checking in on his day off); his ‘older brother’, Shobojit (especially for his humour); the elegant Priya and her team at breakfast; the guys by the pool sweeping and working hard all day; the expertise of Payel and Shobajit in the spa; the housekeepers; front of house; lady in the shop and; everyone behind the scenes in the kitchen (the food here being on a par with any fine dining Indian restaurant in my view). The connection to the history is provided by Mr Somar Mondal and I enjoyed his company many times beyond his village tour throughout my stay. The Rajbari really is a product of the vision to bring it back to life but actually it’s the people who work there that make it truly magical and memorable from my perspective. As well as considering a longer stay if that’s possible, I thoroughly recommend turning left out the hotel and to keep walking in order to experience Bawali proper. Thank you to the Bawali Bharati Sangha Football Club for allowing me to join in for a kick about each morning. That really was a highlight too.

It was a wonderful experience staying in a heritage property steeped in history. The room was nice and the service rendered was excellent. The breakfast menu though, was somewhat repetitive and can be improved upon. Food quality otherwise was really good. The resort took a lot pain in making our stay enjoyable by arranging a wonderful Holi celebration event and some soulful performances in the evenings. Overall, a stay which exceeded expectations.

Thoughtfully restored heritage property in rural bengal but nof far from Kolkata. The room was clean with all standard amenities; the four poster bed was spectacular as well as comfortable. The evening cultural kaleidoscope was enjoyable. All the staff were very helpful, specially Mr. Sandip who took very good care of us. Food and beverage options were varied and the chef did a good job. The property is quite sprawling and is beautifully landscaped, kudos to the horticulture team! The pool and spa were inviting although didn't have time to avail those.

The experience was excellent. But I believe the rooms needs some work. The bathrooms in two of the rooms had poor odour and lack of exhaust fans. Also the rooms' ceiling fans and skylight areas needed to be cleaned. Staff service was fantastic, everyone was out to please the guests.

It is hard to describe the hospitality at the Rajbari Bawali, from the welcome blessing ceremony, to the incredible peaceful and luxurious grounds and rooms. The manager Sandip sir really worked around the clock to make us feel welcome as family. This place perfectly weaves Bengali tradition (beautiful staff saris, fish thalis on the menu, puja and cultural show every evening) ***** with international luxury (single-origin tea, fresh fruit, robes and fluffy pillows in the room). The swimming pool is huge and perfectly clean, there is a spa on the premises, and extensive room service. The sunset Ganges tour with fresh snacks and hot drinks was unforgettable. This place alone is worth a visit to south Kolkata.

Excellent experience of staying at Bawaali Rajbari. Very well managed, staff are extremely courteous and professional. Evening program was entertaining. Food was the best part, loved the thalis. Will be back again for the experience. Nothing to do with the place but the approach road and last 10kms is pretty awful.
