Stafford Bungalow

We asked our travel company for a tea plantation stay. We wanted an elegant place, preferably isolated and with great food and service. The Stafford bungalow delivered all of this and more. Our guide had a call from the hotel on the morning of our arrival to check details and make sure they were ready for us. We were warmly welcomed and taken to our lovely room. Each room has its own private garden as well as the extensive grounds of the hotel. Very comfortable and had everything we needed. We were the only guests for one night which made it all very exclusive and special. Another couple joined us for two nights and was also nice to chat and share experiences with them. We had a light snack every day at 3pm. A savoury bite and a sweet treat. Plus coffee and tea. This was perfect for us as we found that the breakfast filled us up and the dinners were good too. You do have to discuss breakfast options the day before if you want things like hoppers and they like to get your dinner choice before 4pm. We enjoyed all our meals with the Sri Lankan curry on our middle night being a real favorite for us both. There is nothing immediately around the bungalow. Just the tea plantation. There is a village about 2km away but we didn’t leave the bungalow for 3 days other than to do the tea plantation walk with very knowledgeable guide. It’s a place to relax, swim, read books and pretend you own the place. The pool was a great touch with a hot tub that needs 30 mins to heat up. We found the service to be great. Staff were on hand when we needed them but not too intrusive. Only improvement suggestion - all of our other hotels have us a small gift on our departure, cookies or tea or some spices. It would be nice if the bungalow also did this. We loved our 3 days here and would happily return when we next visit Sri Lanka.

An oasis of a property. Great service offered by Chanuka and team. Chef preparations was a delight. As a city couple, the mountains have our heart. The gentle sounds of the birds and stream was therapy for our busy minds. Thank you … we hope to be back.

Where in the world can you have dinner between a fireplace and a pool illuminated by candles? Kapila and the whole team made our stay an unforgettable experience. They were so kind and helpful, making our stay as pleasant as possible. The food was excellent, be it European style or Sri Lankan style with lots of vegetables and herbs coming from the own garden. Having breakfast and teatime with a view to the wonderful garden and nature around was very special. We enjoyed relaxing in the heated jacuzzi or the refreshing pool after a complimentary walk through the tea plantation. Not to forget mentioning the wonderfully decorated house with multiple fireplaces and antique furniture and the lovely garden around it. Thank you so much for an extraordinary experience we will never forget, and thanks to the owner for maintaining this beautiful place and opening it to guests. We will try to come back and stay longer. Hope to see you again!

It is real hidden gem of a place! From welcome, service, facilities, food and room, it has all been perfect! The staff are all so friendly and made us feel very welcome. It is a it of a journey to get here but well worth it! Sad that we are only spending one night here but it has left an incredible souvenir!

Stayed at Stafford Bungalow for 2 nights and it was an amazing experience. The hospitality and the service of the staff is amazing. The team , led by Chanuka, thoroughly pampered us from serving tea and breakfast in the garden to proposing dishes that they felt we would like! No request was too small and they were very accommodating. The food was a feast for the eyes and tastebuds. Every dish was good and the portions were just right for us . Do try the Milo semi freddo! The bungalow itself is beautiful and decorated tastefully. Since the weather was great, we spent most of our time in the gardens walking around and just simply taking in the view . Wished we could have stayed on for a few more days at Stafford Bungalow

We are traveling with a family staying at wonderful places for two weeks. Stafford bungalow has been without doubt the highlight. The rooms are extremely comfortable. They have created spaces that are at the same time referencing the history but with all modern conveniences. The staff are very friendly and attentive but not intrusive. The food is excellent. We only stayed 2 nights but would happily stay a week
