Maqai Beach Eco Resort

This was our second trip back to Maqai and both times have been outstanding. Maqai is a little gem all but hidden from view as you approach by boat, surrounded by jungle, a small palm fringed beach at the waters edge. You get a real feeling of being away from it all, the occasional boat buzzes past to remind you there are a few other people around, there’s no light pollution to spoil the magically starry night sky, it’s a calm, beautiful tranquil place. The ocean and its bounties are on the doorstep of the resort and made incredibly easy to access by the ever attentive staff. Your schedule is their schedule. The staff are amazing, friendly, they greet you by name, are always willing and at the same time discrete, slipping in and making your room up when you’re out. You have a feeling that you’re staying with one big family, nourishing, delicious and plentiful food, guitars, song and kava by night. The bures are on the waters edge where you can keep track of the tides by the sound of the waves. It’s a place where you are carried along by the rhythms of the day with little else to distract. Exceeded all expectations. This piece of paradise is truly the 'hidden gem' of the South Pacific. The island is pristine, the surf is great for all levels, snorkeling and fishing is world class, food top shelf, and the staff are simply the best. They are always there to make your stay as smooth and enjoyable as you could hope for. I will be back, next time for a month. thank you for filling my bucket in so many ways. Nathan

Most relaxing holiday ever. Beautiful place beautiful people…. We are not surfers but there was plenty to do for 5 days. We enjoyed the Taveuni tour. Accommodation was comfortable and attractive without frills. Food was home style cooking and very good, especially the fish and lovely home made bread. And the hospitality of the staff was faultless. Highly recommended
